I think you\'ll need to get hold of an owners manual for this one. You need to turn the engine over and look down the dizzy cavity and check the slotted gear is at the right angle before re-inserting the dizzy. Then just reset the timing and your away.

Just a basic starting point.....on the front pully, there are 2 tiny marks, turn the motor by hand, right hand down, (19 spanner on the front pully) until the first mark aligns with the timing marker on the front cover.(cant miss it ,looks like a darts point),on the dizzy now....on the bottom gear there will be a mark, this alighns with a small indent on the casing....now slot the whole dizzy in...this should get you to start the old girl.....(remove spanner, install alll other bits of course)...further probs i will give a proper English description on how to set static timing..... :guinness

i have made some progress after RTFM (reading the f**king manual) i have a 12a engine so i have been working off that the problem i have is i painted the bottom pully so there are no markings on it (i know stupid) the bottom pully on the spare engine only has one mark (red) i have found that point on the 13b and marked it along with lining up the dizzy, as the car has been sitting for some time i have put some fuel in it (2 cans) but the pump is not pulling it through, gonna try it with the petrol cap off the car and also straight from the can to the pump, it did sound like she was gonna fire with some cold start but without a fuel supply theres also gonna be problems!
would you agree the timming should be close?
i\'m goining to get a timming gun next week 0deg at 500rpm and 15 at 1500rpm is that right?
thanks

Good starting point bro  :yes ,if the motor has been stood for some time it would be advisavle to turn the motor without any ignition(spark) so you can build up some oil press and lube the internals as far a spossible, just short 2 sec burts.this way when she fires up you know youl have good pressure. Not to much of the cold start down the carb,,.. :D

i spun it over without plugs yesterday, but you recormend a little oil in there, the pressure is very good,
any ideas on the fuel?
i\'m gonna get another 5 ltrs today hoping that will solve it

I am always over cautious in firing up a new mtor,i want as much oil running through the crankshaft, lubing the all gears...so i want good oil press,a little castor oil down the carb instead of quick start is what i use if i battle with a new motor and all the seals have not bedded or extended properly yet....get yourself 2 batteries...i use lead replacement 20litres mixed with 250 ml of Castrol R....

Oil pressure guage will flicker under turnover conditions if you use a VDO electronic,a few cranks and you should get some pressure,if you get no reading on turnover...once the motor has started..shutoff !,...you must have a reading within 3 secs othrwise shutoff and try again, never mind red and blue ..use the first indicated notch, you got fuel, you got spark...let dance BOY !!!!

found a small water leak on the inlet manifold so thats coming off and being resealed could explain the damp spark plugs!!!
i have had to make my own timing marks, could anyone messure the distance between there red and yellow timing marks across the pully? i have establised the red but not the yellow mark and acording to the manual the dizzy lines up strainght on the yellow,
glad i went for a nice easy rebuid i thought the engine would be the last issue at she was running fine in the other car! the joys of rotary just glad its not 20 degrees outside then i would be most upset :(
thanks for your help though oldone between yourself and the manual i know we will get there!

thanks mike, this looks really helpfull but my main consern it getting her going atall!!
going to fix the water leak and try to get the (yellow) leading timing mark on the pully then work from there
certianly something worth trying once were running though.

Thanks for taking those, i think im pretty much on the money, i did find the rear caliper sticking d/side when i was fitting the new alloys so i will get that sorted, i just think it needs some time on the road, waiting for the D5 to come back so i can get some plates and mot it.
thanks again
