hi guys,
my names chris and i\'m 20 and i\'m from keighley, yes keighley as in the same place as keighley car trade center :spank .
i\'ve been a member of the forum for a while, but never posted cos i was just seeing if the 2nd gen rx was for me, so i\'m now biding on a rx7 on ebay that needs work (and going very cheap, and i hope it stays that way) so with a bit of luck i\'ll be bringing another rx back from the scrap heap and having alot of fun driving it when its fixed :cool
l8r chris
Welcome Chris! :D
You are more than welcome and I wish you luck on your bidding :D
You are now entering the elite FC zone :cool
Hello and welcome!
Best of luck with it mate! Hae you seen the car at all??
I\'m currently on the look out for a Gen 2- These are really prone to RUST- have a good look- be a shame to get a s***er or one that needs loads of welding- unless your good at that?? If so could be a bargain!
You\'ll have to post some pics when you get her!
:wave Rich
Hi - good luck on the bidding, you won\'t be disappointed.
Hi mate and welcome...
I did exactly the same as you did, read the forum for a week or so, and then joined after i won one on ebay. i havent got mine on the road yet its been six months!! but soon after new year i will be on the road hopefully. If you need to know anything just ask matey.
lol @ already got the warning about rust (they all have this problem). dont panic if there is a bit, just make sure its not stuupid amounts of rust! im pretty sure you will have read some of our previous threads etc.
thanks for the hi\'s. if it was any more fun than my crx was i\'ll be very very happy, yer the rust is my biggest wurry, but i\'m willing to get the angle grinder and welder out if needs be. just hope theres not more than i\'ve been told.
chris
Take a big screwdriver with you and ask the owner to look away whilst you have a prod! :yes
Quote from: Brettask the owner to look away whilst you have a prod! :yes
brett, thats a bit strong for their first meeting isnt it :p :D
maybe a meal and some drinks first :wave
espesally with a screwdriver! poor man.
is there anything i need to look for on the n/a engines other than the obvious hot and cold starts.
chris
welcome aboard matey - i was born in Keighley and lived there until i was 5 - still have all the family their though :)- small world eh
what to check
1 - rust
2 - starts from cold
3 - starts from hot
4 - smooth power delivery
5 - rust
6 - remove rad cap - start the car - check for bubbles in the rad - sign of water seal failure
7 - rust
thats the main stuff .. you got a link to the auction ?
Hi
I would agree with all of the above as we speak mines got just about all the floor cut out !
I\'m getting it done properly so hopefully it wont return !!!
i\'ll post a link as long as no one trys to buy it :P. it is a small world, tho me and the girlfriend will be moving back to scarborough sometime in the new yr, just waiting for the lil one to arrive and get settled before we move, the lil buggers 4 days over due !!
chris
Good luck with the baby, my daughter was 10 days overdue and over 10lb.......
Feel free to post the link, I wont bid! (If you dont win I know of a few around here that are going begging)
Jas,
You are a bad, bad person :rollin I could reply in so many ways but I\'m supposed to be a mod so I cant! :rollin
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/mazda-rx7-for-spares-low-milage-engine_W0QQitemZ4589756433QQcategoryZ18211QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem thats the car, like it says its pretty striped, owner says the only rust is a back arch. my plan is weld a plug into the sunroof hole, make a dash from mdf till i can get a ali one made, keep the inside striped apart from rear seat and belts. that way its drift, drag and track day ready and i can still use it for a daily driver.
Looks like a good deal :)
If you need any parts I stripped an EGI awhile back, same with advice :)
you dont have back seats and belts for them, need to keep baby or mother in one piece if anything goes a miss.
errrr you wont get a car seat in the RX - i tried for HOURS :(
I managed to get a baby seat into the rx7, but basically once they outgrow the little baby seat they dont go in the rx7 until they are about 4 years old. :(
If you want a project car cheap, there is a T2 Vert (red one with 60k on the clock) in Wakefield. It has no engine and some other bits missing but i don\'t think he wants much for the Rolling shell.
He\'s E-mail is worldautos786@yahoo.co.uk
It just so happens that i may be braking a Vert after Christmas so if any of you do end up buying it i could proberly sort you out with most of the missing stuff.
Chris
well if the baby seat doesn\'t go in the back, it could probbly go in the front, otherwise i\'ll make something i had planed in my head or i could find another car seat that will fit a baby seat in it.
i\'d prefer a non vert really since where its gonna get parked isn\'t the best place, and its a lil bit cold for one in this country. might be interested in the t2 parts when u strip that tho.
Belated Hi mate,
Welcome aboard, I live not to far from you actually couple of miles away. I go past keighley in my rex (weather permitting of course) on the way upto skipton quite alot. drop me a line if you\'d like some help with your rex when you get it or could just meet up for a brew and a chat etc.
Jase
cheers olskoolrotar, where bouts are you, i might well take you up on the offer for help! are there ever any meets around here?
chris
Quote from: prisspringlecheers olskoolrotar, where bouts are you, i might well take you up on the offer for help! are there ever any meets around here?
chris
Ours could be the 1st !!!! :rollin .
I live in Shipley, looked at the car your after looks like a good\'n fingers crossed for ya mate, would be nice to see some more rex\'s round here I\'ve only ever seen 3 including mine !!!
Jase
arr ya not far away used to go past there nearly every day when i was a van driver, well is 2 car really a meet :rollin
it\'s nice not having a common car, the people who have them are normaly people who love them and say hello, rather than corsa\'s and max muppet types.
chris
Hello and Welcome Chris (im always late! :D)
Good luck with the project :cheers
YAY i got it for 77, good old auctionsniper :D :3gears-lh worth its weight in gold, now i need to find a trailer or some one to tow it back.
*goes off dancing happly*
chris
£77 is that it - superb !!
indeed, if the shell is a total dud the engine if it really does have 20,000 miles, alone is worth more than that so its win win
hell yes - i paid £20 for an engine that i know is shot at
so how far is the car away from you ?
and if you decide to arrange a meet - let me know - i may bob over - you are only 1hr away
its 64.4 miles away from me according to the aa route planner, i\'m getting quotes for delivery as we speak!.
i\'ll make sure to make a thread the more the better, and 3 is more of a meet!
chris
Well done :D :D :D :D
and if its on a good day i can prob get a few more to come along :D
sounds good, i think i know a place where we could meet up. but 1st things 1st i need to get it mot\'d and tax\'d !
chris
might sound odd... but can some one give me a rough width of the dash, from door to door, just found out that ebay sells nice ali treadplate!
chris
I dunno, about 1750mm maybe?
Well i\'ve just come accross another seven Braking, this time a NA
http://www.simpsonsalvage.com/site/pages/item.php?trans=%&t=B&makemodel=Mazda&catcode=&trimlevel=&fueltype=&pics=pics&orderby=MakeModel&date_filter=3&t=B&value=113515
£77 thats brilliant mate well done. When are you going to get it?
Jase
thanks for the link i have saved it to my favs. simpsons are a bit crap with security lol so good for getting extra bits :P
got someone messaging me already and they said that if i couldn\'t get it back from where it is they would buy it off me for what i paid, silly man. If i did sell it i\'d get more than that for the engine easy. Tut tut.
i\'m not sure when i\'ll be getting it, depends if i get it delivered or if gfs dad brings it back. also depends on when lil one arrives lol!
Chris :) *very happy person*
dont worry about people offering to buy it - both my cars i could have sold before they even made it onto the driveway !!
its not gonna be for sale for a long time the only way its gonna get sold soon is if its got old accident damage, in which case he would of bought it to use for track days.
ringing the owner tomorrow to sort out a pick up date, so then i need to measure the dash so i can order the ali plates for the new dash.
is there any online workshop manuels? would be handy to have saved on the computer if anything is broken.
chris
You want http://www.iluvmyrx7.com/ it has the manuals free to download :)
is there no differance between the US and uk cars apart from the steering wheel? or is it a case that most of it will be right?
Hello and welcome! another FC on the scene!
Now I understand the interest in the rear seats! (I have full carpets as well if you are interested)
Sounds like you got a bargain there mate!
cheers sadgoth, there more the better i think, ohh how much and wot colour? where abouts are you if i have to pick things up? i think i have to !!
chris
the seats are grey/black (standard colours) the carpets are black/dark grey only thing I don\'t have is the parcel shelf. I\'m a LONG way from you! Reading Berkshire!
how much we talking with carpet? any idea on weight, i\'ll prob have to couriour it.
got any pics? or the ebay link perhaps..
well done anyway mate, welcome to FC ownership!
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/mazda-rx7-for-spares-low-milage-engine_W0QQitemZ4589756433QQcategoryZ18211QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem thats the ebay link. seller says theres no rust apart from one rear arch, the rest is clear the interour is fully striped. talked to the seller tonight looks like i\'m going for it this weekend if the baby turns up before friday, or the next weekend we can\'t wait :D
chris
Quote from: prisspringlehow much we talking with carpet? any idea on weight, i\'ll prob have to couriour it.
I can do carpets, front, back and boot lining as well as sound deadening for say £25? no idea on weight (it isn\'t the lightest stuff though) Front carpet has one v small cut where I had to get it round the centre console over the transmission tunnel - I suspect you\'ll find it handy for getting the carpet back in! The cut is at the back of the console not visiable
how long can you hold em for? cos i might have them off you.
chris

you got a sunroof missing too? I had one in my garage upon till a few weeks back when i threw it into the tip
I can hold on to them for a couple of weeks or so, let me know when you are ready and we can sort out funds
Quote from: thebandityou got a sunroof missing too? I had one in my garage upon till a few weeks back when i threw it into the tip
yer its missing probbly broken or rusty when he got it, thats normaly how it works! i\'m just gonna weld in the hole, i never really use sunroofs and they tend to weight a bit when there electric!
sadgoth- i\'ll be intouch probbly next week
chris
Quote from: prisspringleyer its missing probbly broken or rusty when he got it, thats normaly how it works! i\'m just gonna weld in the hole, i never really use sunroofs and they tend to weight a bit when there electric!
chris
Good plan ;) They do weigh a fookin ton and that also a plan you have me considering now :)
and its one less thing to fix and buy, just need to find a welder now , the joys of ebay!
chris
oh that one! yeh its not too far from me mate.
so thats two fc close to me now. nice to know!
chris
i got my welder of Ebay - £66 bargaintastic :)
although i bought it AFTER i spent 7 weeks welding mine together :D
not a bad price, looks like i\'m gonna be spending about the same on a welder as i did the car  did yours come with rods? not sure what size rods to get, probbly 1.6mm and a nice low seting so i dont blow holes through the roof.
chris
i would recommend a MIG if you are welding the car panels ( roof , floor etc... )
i got
MIG - Ebay £66
Arc - Car boot Sale - £5
only use a ARCfor THICK metal - chassis, suspension struts etc..
using a MIG is easy enough to be honest - i never welded before - and managed to get mine thru the MOT first time :D :D :D
i was thinking arc or mig i\'ve done a bit of welding, i\'m a semi skilled engineer so i got to know some lil tricks. arc welders seem to go cheaper then mig so i was going arc there a lil easyer to feed the weld in.
chris
Yeah i reccomend a MIG for first time too. just get a decent mask they make all the difference! Ill find a few good sites out for you to read up on technique! Me and a friend built my exhaust after only a week of practice :D and i have to say its damn sweet! me next proxect is my manifold :wiggle
As we\'re on the subject of welders- what should I look for?? Where can i find out how to use one correctly?? etc, etc.
Never done any before, but keen to learn and seems essential in FC ownership
Thanks for any help
>thread hi-jack over< :wiggle
Rich
Quote from: thebanditMe and a friend built my exhaust after only a week of practice :D and i have to say its damn sweet! me next proxect is my manifold :wiggle
Cool, you will have to make more than one up!! :spank
bet thing to look at is the welders bible but thats fairly indepth i think haynes do a welders guide for car things? theres always google, the higher ther amps ect the better but if its just for cars a small std item is ok other wise you can just blow streaght through.
so as normal i am odd, i always found arc easyer than mig, tho i think when i used the mig it was set up to do silly large welds ( something like 8mm, silly MOD job) so box section got wiped out.
chris
Quote from: Ricco_04Cool, you will have to make more than one up!! :spank
make that 2 :D
A friend is buying 1 of these, they\'re supposed to be the mutts nutts for car bodies etc.
//www.cut-like-plasma.com/dhc2000.htm
Jase
wew wew wew boys, getting me to build parts eh? lol
My manifold will be for an EGi not turboII :D
And im not claiming it will be a great job but if it breaks i have a welder to fix it dont I :D
Quote from: OLSKOOLROTARA friend is buying 1 of these, they\'re supposed to be the mutts nutts for car bodies etc.

Jase
That does indeed look the dog dangely\'s :yes
Would this suffice for begining and car work??http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Powershack-MIG-190R-MIG-Welder-from-Europa-NO-RESERVE_W0QQitemZ7563903468QQcategoryZ64818QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
get down machine mart ;)
HOW MUCH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the only thing i can comment on here is
1 - MIG - Look for what amps it does - the better the range the better for you ( i can weld thin to thick on mine )
2 - ARC - you get nice welds with ARC i have to admit that - but usually only for doing 2mm+ work
3 - MIG - For beginner its great - stick in right place - pull trigger .. JOY ! :D
4 - Lots of scrap metal and practice on it - buy the wire from ebay - nice and cheap
5 - MIG - if working outside - use gasless wire
6 - MIG - if welding inside - use gas
7 - MIG - Get one that does both :)
mine was £66 from ebay ( collected ) and its got 3 settings ( low, med, high ) and then another switch which does low , high
so its got 6 settings - low-low to high-high
i borrowed one to weld my car up - had that for 12 months - offered the guy £100 for it and he wouldnt sell - glad he didnt as my ebay one was cheaper :)
i got quoted over £300 for welding mine ( and that was before i knocked seven shade of sht out of it with the hammer ) - in the end it worked out at
1 - welder - borrowed - free
2 - steel - £3 for a 1mm sheet of 6ft * 18 inchs
3 - 2 rolls of wire @ 9.00 each of ebay - i seem to waste more that i use - but i dont care
4 - 1*4.5kg reel for £35 but never used it - still in box
so worse case it cost me ( 35+18+3 ) is £56 - now thats a grinder friendly price :D :D
Enough wittering from me i think .. im just happy as i won the cab cover on ebay for £5.50 and my oil temp/pressure gauges arrived today
oh yes - one happy bunny at the mo :D
Stu / Grinder
I got my oil temp gauge thru the other day too Stu, just trying to think how best to plumb it in... whats your angle of attack? :)
ah well :D :D .............
im very sneaky - i bought mine from DanDan , and it came with
1 - oil temp gauge
2 - oil pressure gauge
3 - sandwich plate for under the oil filter
there is a discount code for the sandwich plate in the members bit
ALTHOUGH i have seen it taped into the banjo bolts on the oil cooler ??
grinder where did you get the sheet steel from? i\'ve just been looking on ebay for something that will fill the sunroof, there not bad prices but i\'d rather pay less.
local sheet metal place - it was grade B .. ie it had footprints on it and wasnt shiney
thought u\'d say that, u must of got some cut off for that price!
Hey Chris you around this weekend at all, was wondering if you would like to meet up weather permitting of course (cuppa soup days now!!). I\'ve got my battery on charge at the moment as I havent been out in the rotor for over a week now. I\'m putting my stockies on if all goes well, going for the nice little sleeper approach!!
Jase
erm i dunno if can girlfriend is getting induced on sunday so sat will be me and her running round getting things spot on, would be nice if she came early tho. and the weekend after i\'m due to pick up the car :¬D weekend after, could be a possable. so i\'ll get back to ya.
chris
p.s. feel free to give me a hand with the car any time as well ;) i might need it.
chris

No worries,
All the best to ya\'s both for this weekend hope all goes well I\'m sure it will. Get the cigars ready :cheers
p.s We\'ve got a silvercross pram for sale if you\'s are interested low mileage :rollin never been crashed
Jase
cheers bud, cheers for the offer but were both sorted for a pram, we got a silly 3 wheeled thing, its gonna be fun pushing it up the hills round ere !
chris
if you need a hand with the car - give me a shout i might beable to come and play for a few hrs :)
how far is chorley from manchester, i thought i was quite some way! but feel free, it all depends on how much work needs doing.
i was thinking since its striped out a lil would there be much point in welding up the seams a bit more or fully?
p.s. oldskoolrotar its 10p listing day on ebay so u could try floging it on there!
chris
chorley is about 40 miles from manchester , and im about 42 miles from keighley
not a million miles away really :D
and i would weld what ever looks weak to be honest
if its half like what yours and a few others on here are like it might need some welding, you cant be far from the car then! cos i\'m 65 miles away from it according to the aa. thought so, makes the shell stiffer as well, could see it costing a bit in rods tho !
chris
so where are you based at the moment ??? keighley or scarborough ?
when are you getting the car ?
keighley, i need to change my location! hopefully sat next week if i can sort out someone, hopefully girlfriends dad, to toe/trailor back.
chris
yeah im 42 miles from keighley ( ISH )
although im not up on the locations around there - what are you near - i used to live in hardwick street .. bd21 1qy .. LOL i even remember the post code and i moved away from there 25 yrs ago :D !!!!!!!!
edensor road, near devonshire street/redcliffe street, i dunno hardwich street but it sounds familiure, theres more rx7 that i though in the localish area!
this is gonna be the best guess for the location where i used to live
1 - its off oakwood road
2 - near a post office
3 - there is a primary school nearby ( with port-a-cabins in the yard - well up to 10 yrs ago !! LOL ) - about 50 metres away
4 - its near a park that used to have a BMX track in it - again about 50 metres away
5 - i think its just off the main road out of keighley.. up a slight hill ... petrol station on the right... some small shops and a zebra crossing
its been about 10 yrs since i have been there - and the rest of the family live just out of town
best i can do matey !! LOL
i have looked where you are - and it means NOTHING to me !! LOL
i have been reading the auction listing - sounds one hell of a project buddy !!
anyways im outta here
take care
stu
actaully mate - its about 500yrds from where you are now !! thats most ammusing
go to multimap - open 2 copies of it
enter your postcode and the one i gave you - and look at both maps !!
i reckon i could find your house dead easy :) - said in a nice way not car stealing way !! LOL
pity i dont still live there eh !
sounds like you lived near the health center i think, so ya not too far away, i live nrish west lane if that heps?
indeed but for that money it cant be bad!
chris
no idea buddy - certainly a stones throw from where you are !!
oops i thought wrong then! i knew it sounded like it was close to here! indeed i\'d have been round with the tape measure to measure the dash and sunroof!
chris
you will have to keep us posted on the progress
and if need be i can throw the welder in the car and bob over for a few hrs ?
i\'d be quite happy to, and that would be great, how do you liked to be payed in beer or spirits tokens :guinness
chris
does anyone want me to keep dia. for the sunroof plug and new dash? i\'ll probbly keep them for myself incase i need to know.
Anyone heard from chris (prisspringle) regarding his missus? Has she had the baby yet ?
Jase

thank guys its one of the most sureal things ive ever seen and its also the most rewarding, just glad i wasn\'t sarah , it looks more than an touch painfull.
i think i\'ll have to get myself membership before molly gets one, i also need to get the rx to my house and find time to fix it!

Chris i got a dash and sunroof if you want them for your project?
how much we talking for the sunroof? is it just the plug or is it for the motors, cos i\'m only looking for the plug atm till i get the things i need to weld in the hole.
chris
p.s. sadgoth i\'ll give you a bell tonight if i can get time to.
Ill get you some piccies tonight if you like, basically the sunroof is a cartridge system (roof, motors, wiring) but motors can be taken off easily enough. its rust free and pretty much mint. say 30 quid or so if you wanna come pick it up?
what colour is it? how much without motors and wireing!where bout are you? pics would be great1
chris
Im based in the west mids nr birmingham. Fire me an email to burtthebandit@hotmail.com and make me an offer for it :) Ill send some pics to your email then buddy :)

chris
ill strip motor and wiring tomorrow and get it weighed. guessing its gonna be a bit tho. will let you know matey
any luck with the pictures? and price for delivery?
chris
its finaly sorted the cars comeing on friday afternoon, so i should have enough time to fill the sunroof hole with some bit of wood and silicone sealent :Hammer . should keep the idiots out, i\'m taking the battery and alternator belt off to make sure it stays where it is!
chris
P.s. sadgoth can you send my your number cos the number you gave me doesn\'t work? and hotmail is getting worse.
