Hi everyone. I think it is First "Hello" from Lithuania. I have mazda rx4/929 coupe 77\'>75. At this time it is not rotor engine :( was trying to find 13b in good condition, but here we don\'t have rx cars (even rx7 is rare car) second engine was maserati biturbo - V6 twin turbo 240BHP 340Nm, didn\'t fit oil sump, and turbo :( so i placed ford 2,9 cosworth engine.
know i want to upgrade brakes. what do you guys doing with your old brakes? I know you have brake kits, but here i don\'t have, and they are quite expensive. so may be it is posible to swap others cars brake rotors and callipers?
Second question - i need bumpers - front and rear. where could i get them?
thanks
Late 80\'s/early 90\'s model Mazda 626/Ford Telstar (FWD) vented discs will fit then you just need to make some brackets to mount some better calipers like 4 port RX-7, Nissan 300ZX, etc. Send me a pm if you want more details.
PS. Lets see some pics of your 4!
here are some pictures:
i bought it the way it looks (without wheels)
looks a little bit better?
this is BMW 320 (E30) disc rotor and volvo 240 calliper.
bmw 320 disc rotor is quite the same as mazda gc
problem is that volvo 240 calliper is offset (out of hub) so i can\'t use my flat steel wheels.
and i don\'t have calliper brackets.
here is mazda and BMW rotor:
bmw a little bit higher 35,1mm mazda 34,6
but bmw is 260mm mazda 250mm
i have ford scorpio calliper it could fit 260mm bmw rotor.
p.s. Mullins i can\\t PM you, i\'m not a full member :( please write here.
I doubt any conversion to a decent setup will allow you to keep the steel wheels. If you really want to keep the steels you could do the old first gen RX-7 conversion.
EDIT: The 2 bolt plan above looks too dodgy in my opinion.
my steel wheels are 8.5" wide R15
tell me more about 1 gen rx7 conversation?
actualy i have 2 gen rx7 callipers is it worth?
p.s. rx3 hubs are not hte same as rx4 ? because i found a lot off common brake conversation for rx3
The conversion I\'m talking about usually involves swapping the entire front mcphearson(spelling) strut across. That way you don\'t need to worry about hub sizes/stud patterns/caliper mountings, etc, etc.
MikeLMR has done this conversion on his 323 so maybe having a look at his post in this section may help. Obviously it may not be exactly the same (being an RX-4) but I\'m sure you could get it to work! ;)
thanks. i will try to find it. i was thinking about swaping all strut from other car but there will be a lot of problems with steering system. but everything is imposible.
thanks.
does anybody done conversation with volvo 240 4 pot callipers?
looks like i will go for this upgrade.
maybe somebody has calliper bracket dimensions?
hi everyone. it\'s me again.
Finaly i find the best (i hope) pair of brake rotor and calliper.
Here is Nissan 200sx (or nissan silvia S13 1,8 turbo) 280mm brake rotor, with mazda rx7 S4/5 4pot calliper.
i will make 4 new holes. brake rotor will mount on front of hub. nissan is 4x114.3 PCD.
(//%5BURL=http://img225.imageshack.us/my.php?image=nissanbrakedisc3jn.jpg%5D%5Bimg%5Dhttp://img225.imageshack.us/img225/7409/nissanbrakedisc3jn.th.jpg)[/IMG]
one little problem - mazda has 4x110mm pcd - i need 4x108 pcd (audi, ford wheels)
now i thinking houw to make 108 from 110...
also i need calliper brackets.
calliper brackets should be steel or aluminium?
I have been using Ford wheels on both my 1000/1300\'s and my 323\'s without a problem for about 20 years now, including a lot of rallying. The thing is though is that I have always converted my hubs to take the wheel studs as shown below.
When you tighten the wheel onto the studs, they just move slightly to take up the 2mm difference, and as I say never had any problems. :cool
I was also going to use the BMW disc but with the Ford Escort M16 caliper, but had the same problem with fitting the wheel
(http://publish.hometown.aol.com/jmazdaman/images/cal005.jpg)
Why the Ford caliper? well because with only a small amount of filling to one mount hole it bolted straight on. And if that fitted, then Princess 4 pots would have done also
(http://publish.hometown.aol.com/jmazdaman/images/cal008.jpg)
This did\'nt work out so the brakes I am using now are vented discs from the 1800cc MX5/Miata machined to fit the standard 1300 hub, and then alloy M16 replacement calipers. These are exactly the same piston size as the original calipers so no worries with brake bias.
If I had gone for 4 pots then there\'d be all the hastle of a bias peddle box and so on. And anyway who needs brakes in a 1000 - you need to keep all the momentum you can get:Giggle
If in doubt - change up :3gears-rh
Rich ;)
Finaly i have caliper brackets.
There was some questions about strenght of this bracket. but people who made it, told me that this is verry strong welding (ithink it is TIG welding). so i hope they are right. what do you think guys?
it\'s a bit difficult to see but they don\'t look ideal, are they fully welded ?
There seems to be a massive amount of material where it is not really needed (on the backplate adapter) and not a lot of material where it IS needed (to support the caliper) having said that its probably way stronger than the original style mountings BUT they would have had their life and strength checked by qualified engineers so homemade stuff needs to be over engineered to ensure it is safe.
I agree with all the points that Mike has made.
The ring looks to be a flange, the type we used to join steam pipes and the like at the creamery where I worked. They are available in many diameter/centre bore/thickness and bolt PCD configurations. And, on top of that, it looks awfully like stainless steel, hence the TIG welding, although I could be wrong  Extremely stong but a bit OTT tho\'.
Another point is the position of the caliper - you really need to rotate it in one direction or the other so that you can bleed the air out of the system properly - just make sure that the bleed nipple is at the highest point.
Rich ;)
this bracket was made by profesional welders. i hope they know what they are doing.
The back plate is done corectly i asked to do moro holes to have posibility to change position of the caliper (at this time caliper is bolted on "12 hour", also i have posibility to bolt it in position of "2 hour" and 10.
Mike > Yes it is fully weldet.
here is more pictures:

Hi everyone. some good news from me:
conversation to 75 pointy nose almost done, all parts aligned. now i need to prepare for painting...
almost all parts i have. still need some small parts - locks, mirrors for doors and some plastic interior parts.
Updating. fully restored body, new fenders, sills.
Prepared for painting. today is The Day of Painting.

looking good!
Now car finaly have color.
Assembling goes verry slowly :( But everything i mount on my car will stay there for long time.
respect
I think in same city similar car will be yellow or black :)
let\'s race who first get car from garage in to streets? :)
Mine was on streets already :D have video for about 20km ride :D But i accept this challenge :)
If you don\'t want to keep it original, it\'s easier to finish. 3 years i\'m hunting good mirrors. still don\'t have :(
You will need hard work, money and a lot of patience. Wish you all those three major things.
Progress!!!

upgrading brakes:
1" master cylinder (done)
4 pot rx7 calipers front (done)
Nissan silvia rear calipers (need to be done)
awesome, amazing to see just how long since this project was started :D
Shaun
Actualy this car is in project just from 2008.02.20
this is new body, not that one in first pictures. that old body now hos McPie (rx4 on Rx7)
And yes it take lot of time.
2009 01 22
back to the race.
some progress:
Interior half finished, front panel not assembled yet, will leave for some time as will need to do some electric works)
Doors assembled.
Rear seats.

Engine is done. running. As brakes are not finished, didn\'t had posibility to make good test drive.
Here\'s small video (sad, my friend was filming with phone, and few times was turned Picture mode, at these moments my exhoust throwed flames :)))))

Here is my new wheels. bought long ago from USA. now repainted, polished. need to assemble.
Next - rear brakes. got calipers, need to make brackets.
Love the colour, think you are going to have a fantastic looking car when you finish it :D
its looking good an nearly finished very impressed
not happy with painting quality. looks like paint and finish is verry thin, small scratch and paint gone :((((
Anybody know a good rotary engine builder in UK or near?
thinking about 13b carb small ported. need someone to build this engine :2Rolleyes
You have a huge choice on here depending on budget.
Got my old South African friend in the UK (old skool guru) build my current one and Reworx built the one before it.
You have the main companies
such as WGT,Haywards,Rototechnics,Reworx,Dragon Performance,Lindop
best (cheaper) would be a person who works on his own. but will se what companys can offer. thanks.
what is your email dude?, I can forward you a few details of a few people I know who work on their own as I am not allowed to post details on the forum
apx@mail.lt
thanks
Half interior finished, doors finished.
Soon rear brakes will be mounted, already have caliper brackets, need to make new brake lines on rear. Assembling interior, lot of plastic parts...
(http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/6162/dsc0499mdo6.th.jpg) (http://img232.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc0499mdo6.jpg)
Looking better and better!
//Magnus
Looking great
Very clean interior
Regards the paint, on a metallic the base coat is just a thin layer of colour, what makes the thickness and depth of the paint is the lacquer, if it scratches to the metal easily then maybe it didn\'t have enough on ?, 3 layers minimum is what i would advise.
Anyway fantastic work there, keep us updated :D
Ok time to big updade. Let the pictures and video talk :

cool looks brilliant, I would change the wheels though to say some BBS type split rims.
Where is the engine bay shots :D?
Wheels will be changed soon (ordered Epsilon Mesh wheels more than year ago) just need to change brakes as caliper doesn\'t clear wheel.
Picture of front wheel (rear has deeper lip) sadly car is lowered not naturaly.

engine bay pictures? no way :3Confused until it is not rotary engine, there is no good view.
ahhhhh I see, get that Rotor motor in !!!!
Yes I do like those rims you just posted there
^^^ +1 That\'ll look awesome on those new wheels. It just sits a bit too high up on the current ones. Really nice-looking car though :Thumbs-up
rotary engine is quite expensive. could buy from Australia, but shiping would cost twice, USA the same... Economical situation in these days not the best also.
look around poland ive seen a few rx7s parked up in warsaw
any way fkn cool car dude lovn it
it\'s not worth buying all car, especialy in east europe, here such cars will be either good and expensive, either cheap with dead engines. In my country there are rx7 FC turbo, but only few of them are good, good cars are not for sale at least not for spare parts. Was thinking about import engine from japan, quite good price. but these are future plans.
:cool
Those wheels are so right!
And you should go rotary... is it difficult to import ?
I think you could probably find engines here in sweden.
Then is always the price..... again and again.
// Magnus
It\'s not a problem to inport from almost any country (japan, usa, maybe australia is hardest way), but there is allways question of money. Good rebuilded engine will cost lot of money, imported from japan is a lotery i think, best would be to rebuild it too, here in my country there is no specialists for rotary engines, so i would need to rebuild it my self, posible but hard way. Now i need as much easier to instal and run engine swap. Bought, placed, and ready to go. Thisis almost imposible.
Future will show.
I heard it, people speak about it, but I haven\'t seen it and it\'s only ~20km from my home, shame on me... Before leaving LTU i want to meet you ;)
Thinking about some motivation to myself.... now it is cold outside and mazda is sitting in garage. but some job still can be done...
also there are some new pics of my car from old car meeting in autumn.
so enjoy....
my future plans : adjustable coils, adjustable top mounts, lowered rear leafs, LSD, new brakes on front to clear epsilon mesh wheels. and probably rotary engine. damn i want rotary engine.

Now I miss my \'74 RX4\'s.
lithuania looks beautiful !
I love this car!! :Thumbsup!
Thanks!!!
now trying to rotorize it.
got 13b engine in parts. almost all parts are usless.
where to get 13b NA side plates, and housings, and rotors ?
todays view:

Looks Awesome! :)
Looking good bro!
Did you mount it so far to the front so you could use the stock fc engine mounts?
Firstly was planing to use fc mid plate mounting, but didn\'t liked possition of engine -you can see in picture with white g-box and unpainted engine. It was moved to front to clear space for fc sump. By the way my suspension is 1977 - engine crossmember is bigger than <1976 s1,s2. Later I ordered early 13b/12a front cover and 13b sump, rx4 engine crossmember. Now i\'m happy with original look.
You should have use the mid plate mounts and move the engine backwards. Looks good though, mounted of the front plate as it should be.
Now i see ;)
I\'m using the front cover mount aswell, only difference is me using the TII engine and transmission
Looks great :Thumbs-up
