Hi there everyone, well basically I\'m new to this forum and I\'ve just got my 1994-Black-FD-TypeR2 Rex imported 2 weeks ago...
Anyway, today I just brought the car to a garage to get it rolling road to see what BHp it\'s producing. Basically its got all the normal modificatioin such as induction kit, down pipe, after market exhaust and after market ecu "Don\'t know what make is the ECU yet".
Anyway, when the car was on the dyno for its warming up runs the turbo gauge showed a peak of 1.5Psi which is fine... but when the car is warmed up enough.. it cannot hold it\'s boost and the max it could go was to less than 1.0Psi and that\'s when we have the accelerator to the floor and when it\'s not floored it just seems to be boosting at 0.5Psi or less???..
Any idea of what is going on. The turbos seems to be working fine so don\'t think they\'re in any problem. The mechanic who looked at it thinks that it might be the waste gate actuator or the dump valve which is not keeping the pressure in....
So anyone have any idea of what is going on or have similar problems before and also does anyone know what is the standard boost setup in a stock RX7?
Thanks,
Diablo
hi m8,
please check your hoses from and to intercooler. When the engine is hot, the rubber is going to be more elastic. Check the tubing while the car is hot.

Iwan
Also check the hoses from the air filters. They collapse when hot.
Dan
Thanks guys, I check the hoses and the tubes after I give the car a good run around.
Thanks
I still can\'t find what is wrong. Doesn\'t seems to be anything wrong with the tubes and hoses.
I\'ve also noticed a very load air flow or sound of air escaping from somewhere when the turbos starts kicking in. Hence, there must be a leak somewhere.......
Does anyone know what is the maximum boost or typical boost the car can go to. Currently the boost cannot go over 1.0 bar (kg/cm^2) or roughly 14 psi.
So can anyone tell me what\'s the typical boost you guys get please???
Thanks,
Diablo
If your hit 1 bar of boost thats good, not unless it set for say 1.5 bar and your only getting 1 bar. If you hear hissing when you accelerate like a high pressure air leak, or dumpvalve kind of sound I know what it\'s likely to be, and it will cause you to actually run higher boost than your supposed to like .9 bar at only half throttle which is not good. I don\'t know the proper name for it but remove the airbox unti and below connected to the left of the first turbo looking at the car from trhe front there is a kind of nozzle with two small pipes connecting to it this may well be disconnected. It\'s something to do with the actuator but as I said I can\'t rememeber the proper name. Hope this helps a little.

Okay.. will go and dismantle the air filter to have a good look and see.....
Thanks.
Hi,
I had a very similar problem - boosted fine when cool but after a good run would only boost to around .4 bar. Turned out to be one of the vacuum tubes that atatches to the boost chamber (there are 2 on the RHS of the chamber, it was the front one).
Problem was due to the hoses being brittle (due to heat damage) so it\'s something I\'m going to get done at some point. I may even make it into a winter project now I hava garage space for the FD.
Hope this helps,
Iain
Hi iaint,
Do you have a photo of the tubes and chamber that you\'re talking about because I\'m still quite new to this rotary engine setup although I have some idea of which part you\'re talking about but just to make sure.

piccy attached (found on http://www.robrobinette.com/). Have circled the boost chamber thingy and put red dots rougly where the failed vacuum hoses were.

Yes vacum hoses as mentioned abouve, also check the clips which fix the Y-pipe, they can work loose, then you hear air escaping and obviously low boost.
Check the piping from the intercooler to turbo, the big plastic pipes and fixings.

Hi Diablo
I noticed from your list of mods you dont mention anything about your intercooler, if you are running a standard intercooler without a boost controller you will spike - hence the 1.5bar.
Standard boost for your car should be 8-10-8 psi [.75bar max]
If you have the standard IC you will find when the engine is cold you will have more power [1.5bar not good!] You will only see max boost pressure at WOT.
Hope this helps

John
sorry m8, but you are a bit wrong.
You should read 10-8-10.
The max boost of 1992 FD is 0.9 BAR. If your car reads about 1,5BAR, its definitely to mutch. Your restrictor pills must be wrong, or your solenoid valves stuck when cold.
Couse of downpipe I get peaks about 1.0 BAR on my 1992 car.
Best Wishes

well.... thanks everyone for the help and advice.. these will certainly give me something to do over the weekend trying to find out what is the problem or probably there\'s no problem at all...
Anyway.. thanks again...
Cheers
