Turbosmart - shiny and blue - my fave :-)

I have some similar bits in a box myself some where...

No BOV btw? I got a couple of Turbosmart BOVs (in blue! ;) ) if you want one. Was gonna have 2 on mine \'cause that\'s what the kidz want - but if you need/want one there\'s a spare mate...

Great! I\'ll have one of those BOV\'s please Rich :)

Don\'t think the week can get much better!

Engine is running sweet, apexi boost controller with 3 bar map sensor on its way from Japan, just got a fuel pressure regulator and fuel filter to sort now! I\'m going to get \'SX\' brands for both I hope.

Cool.

I got an SX RRFPR kicking about too - Phil\'s got an SX pump, filter and FPR on his car I think too. Nice kit.

You at home?

Most of this type of stuff tends to come from down under, because they love rotaries and are right hand drive like us!

US stuff more often than not will not fit, because they do not have to contend with steering/downpipe etc on the same side.

Here are a few links:

//www.horsepowerinabox.com    (this is where I got mine)

//www.rpmperformancecentre.com.au

//www.gcg.com.au

There\'s loads more about! Best way to find them is to go to the google australia website and serach from there.

Assuming your car is stock, what sorta bhp rise would you expect with that kit?

Dan!!

Sorry for my ignorance but is that a single turbo conversion?

Dave :)

Dan, with the way Max drives it should be an extra 5000BHP. In the real world you would expect around 450-500BHP with all the correct mods, which Max is well sorted on! ;)

Dave, yes that is a single conversion.

The guys at CPC make 350-400 at the wheels with that turbo and \'all the correct mods\'; you\'d need a fair amount of boost to make 450-500atw\'s... At the flywheel you may get close. The GT35/40 can run 25psi ok though I think.... :-)

There\'s an FC running MoTeC and GT35/40 in FF\'s this month; 269KW at 16psi - about 360 to the wheels...

Wow thats a big big rise then.

Excuse my crapness, but what sorta other mods needs to be carried out to make the claimed 400+bhp with that kit.
Obviously a decent ecu (Apexi power fc, no?), decent cooling?, rotor tip/seal upgrades?

Dan, heres a quick list and I am sure that Rich and Max will add some bit to it.

Big single turbo kit
Front mount I/C
Uprated fuel system (pump, fuel pressure regulator and injectors)
ECU (Apexi, Microtech, Motec, Haltech, etc.)

Oh and a good set of brakes so that you can stop the bloody thing!

Dan!!

I wouldnt go that far.... :D

You might also have to have some porting on the engine.

For a stock car add:
Bullet proof cooling system
Twin plate clutch
Mid pipe and catback
Boost controller

Probably most important though - as Dan mentioned - a decent extend port job- and dowelling if you\'re gonna push +1bar boost for the big numbers :)

Any thing else? Probably!

Might not be too many bits Dan - but that\'s a shed load of cash in parts and labour to fit and then TUNE the lot!!!

I can imagine that it would add up to thousands.

For all the bits (i mean everything...clutch etc) and labour, what would you be looking at.....£7k-£10k?

Maybe i should try and find one in japan thats already been done.

400+bhp, in a car thats as light as the fd3, i can imagine you would give most big bhp skylines and supras a bloody good run.

Surely..... it would be Bye Bye Evo 5

A genuine 400RWHP FD will DESTROY most of the opposition I think you\'ll find :-)

I wouldnt like to say what it would cost you turn key; could probably find £8K in parts there easily- without the engine work! There\'s a lot of stuff there.

Bit of labour to fit it all and tune it too ;-)

Would a v-mount work just as well as a front mount with a single turbo?? I\'ve always liked the v-mounts and i dont want my car overheating in traffic or to cut up the front bumper

V-mount is popular in Japan, over here most people go for the front mount as it costs a lot less.

just catching up!!! been away for a whole day and miss everything (again)!!!!

Thanks for the replies :)

oddly enough, I\'ve just been chatting with Carl hayward about engine work required for various levels of power!

One area I have not covered as yet is the engine strengthening (dowelling) and therefore I will not be planning a massive amount of boost to start with. One bar should initially provide good results compared to what I got with the twins with one bar.

My Apexi boost controller arrived today which links into the Apexi Ecu, this is fairly plug n play so no fiddling required and no need to find room in the cockpit for another display!

In the long run, I will have to get another engine prepared, get it dowelled, maybe run ceramic seals. I also remember Jus talking about strengthening the lower block somehow......will have to speak to him.......With this I could then explore higher boost levels!

I think I\'ll be joining you Rich with having a few engines floating around ;)

I\'m really looking forward to putting the beast in soon, I think I\'ve got almost everything - just awaiting my fishtank ;)

There\'s plenty more I will need to sort over the coming year....more money, more money ;)

Regards

Max
