Title: fuel lubrication
Post by: JapanSpirit on October 28, 2005, 02:50:59 AM
Hi !

I wanted to put BP ultimate RON98 in my car but i have a question.

About the "lubrication" by the fuel...
The RON98 is supposed to be more corrosive and less lubricating than the RON95.
Is it dangerous for our seals or the segments ?

You said it\'s better to put the 98 (safety of the engine compared to the risks of detonations), but is it advised to put RON98 in a "old" stock rotary (150000Km) ? Is the answer the same for a 13B N/A 1986 (FC3S) and a 13B TT (FD3S) ?

Thanks for your answer.

You want to put the highest octane fuel in a turbo rotary (i.e. Turbo 2 or FD) that you can. Most of us here in the UK use Shell Optimax.

My FD has 151000 kilometers with stock engine (not rebuild)
I am afraid that the worse lubrication of the Ron98 damage the engine (seals).

(already the use of any synthetic oil rather than of mineral oil is enough to damage the engine, for this reason I put myself the question)

A friend who has a FC puts the same question

SHell Optimax = Shell Vpower in france ;)

Stick to the Vpower if you can. Have you considered pre-mixing?

Yep, if you are at all worried run a little bit of pre-mix, I cant remember the exact ratios off the top of my head but I think I used to use about 1/4pint to a tank.

Premix for my old 13B is it essential according to you (risk without ?) ?

Thanks
