Title: Fitting Alu AST...help
Post by: gmogle on October 27, 2005, 09:23:03 PM
Guys,

I have bought an Ally AST tank from WGT.

Is there a guide of how to fit it anywhere ?

Is there anything I need to do when fitting it ?

Also anything after fitting it ? Checking coolant etc?

Any help would be great.

unclip old one.connect new one/refill from main filler.personally i wld try to keep in the same place if poss as well.when filling dont fill the plastic tank on offside only fill from centre filler..
at first keep cap off ast and fill from middle tank until level in ast rises and the put cap on and refill centre tank again and run car until coolant rises in the centre tank then put cap on quick and let car idle..
the keef refilling until air burps itselp hopefully out of the system and keep refilling

just bosh the hoses on! there in a similar place. then top up water. done. no need to cut hoses if i remember correctly.

you just need a pair of pliers/screw driver to release ast and pipes.

then give it a kickin!

Cheers

So fit the new AST tank, then fill the usual coolant tank and leave the cap off and fill to the usual level. Start the car then keep checking it after a short run.

Sounds fairly easy. If you overfill then it should run out the system ?

If you clamp the hoses before you start removing them you then you lose very little coolant

When i changed mine over, i was shown how to do it by Carl Hayward. And it sounds about right what everyone has said, but the last thing i was told to do was once the system was topped up at the cap, there is another very small top up point near the throttle body/boost sensor, towards the back of the engine, and with all the caps back on the last place to fill up is there, with a small funnel as it can be a bit tricky. I think there is a sticky about coolant topping up maybe this would help aswell, hope all goes well. :yes
