Not sure if this is posted in the right section but,
My 1996 red FD is somewhat faded, particularly on the bonnet and front bumper. I\'ve tried polishing, valeting etc but with only short term results. I\'m now considering a respray unless someone here knows of a cheaper solution that will be just as good? Fading is a different rate on the plastic and metal.....
Any idea how much for a respray in the same colour on visible areas only? Would the plastic bumper take a respray?
Thanks
Angus
To get it done well is gonna cost you £1500 - £2000+
You could probably get a reasonable blowover for less than £1000 but it will be shagged out in a very short time.
Pay as much as you can afford is my only tip.
Speak with Donato, he recently got his FD resprayed.

Hi mate,
I payed £2000 for mine, was well worth it. I was quoted various prices from 1000 to 3500+vat!!!
i decided to go with the 2000 one as they had a very good rep and it was middle of the road price wise. Resprays you tend to get what you pay for...but you also get people who charge the earth but dont live up to it, try and get someone who has been recommended...
cheers
Donato
Cant say this strong enough- Have a good look at peoples work, see it for yourself.
Go for companies that have been recommended by person! You may regret it if you don\'t!
I speak from experience, had a few areas needing a touch up- went with a local bodyshop, who had done cover cars for a couple of different mags, And a total bodge job done!
Things poorly sprayed, hand touched up washer jets on bonnet, dripped paint across bonnet! :reallymad :reallymad . You get the picture.
Just be selective as to who you use, Good Luck!
Rich
Thanks for all replies!
Donato,
Do you have before and after pics for your car? I would happily put the car to Edinburgh if it meant I know the job will be done well.
Thanks
Angus
There is another aulternative to a respray, well 2 actualy, 1 expensive and one cheep:
1) Carbon Fiber bonet around the £700 mark.
Or
2) dont bother with T cut or doing it by hand, go to a body shop and get them to go over the car with their polish mop using a G6 or G7 cutting compound ( they do this after all resprays to bring up the shine!! )
the paint will be as good as new and last alot longer as factory paint jobs are normaly of a better quality than after market resprays!!
My mate had the same problem with his GT4 ( it looked pink!!) untill I put the mop over the car for him, looks like new now :cool (apart from where the laquer had started to flake on the bonnet :reallymad !!)
I\'d of thought this should set you back £80 - £100. :yes
If you want pics of the GT4 to see the differance let me know
Hope this helps,
Jono
Or to go one step further, it\'s worth trying a flat and polish, though it\'s bloody hard work but has had good results for me before.
Try 2000 grade wet n dry paper, nice and wet with soap and water, and rub in a circular motion by hand till all the orange peel has gone, keep rinsing the paper. Then if the finish is nice and smooth you wont need G7, just buff back up with T-cut do a deep shine. Then a good quality polish for protection. Try a small area and see how it goes.
ask RX aberdeen where he got his done, think it was in inverurie but could be wrong
I\'ve had my bumper done twice by a guy I know up here with good results so yes the bumper will take a respray. You tried kintore I hear they\'re quite good
I used a guy in Aberdeen (not Kintore) for the bonnet, bumper and wings. Cost me £500 and I was not impressed with it! Sh*t job in my opinion but there is almost no come back.
Angus, Id go with where Donato got his done, it looks really good. I saw it down in Glasgow at one of the car shows, had a great shine to it. Only thing I would be really interested in would be how it stands up to years of abuse from our roads and weather.
Donato,
Do you have any pic of your newly respray car?? May be a before and after pics?
Cheers
il second the use of what jonofd3 said..my bodyshop only uses farecla car body compounds..he gave me some g10. I went over the car with it and it came out like new. The pic below is my car with original paint after going over with the g10 and BEFORE wax or polish..after using that, just go over with some decent wax polish and it`ll keep shiny. Before using the g10, my rear bumper was slightly pinky and dull. It would be criminal to paint over good paint if it can be buffed up like new.You can buy a professional buffer from netto with pads for£20 looks like a large angle grinder. The farecla compounds costs about £20..so £40 and you have the right tools to keep her shining. Website...

Hey Robbie, do you fancy having a go at my montego blue RX at some point? I had it machine polished but still looks rubbish, they didn\'t use G cutting compounds though.
Some beer tokens in it for you :)
cheers

One word of warning though: If yoou buy the gear to do it then great, but keep the head wet & mooving ( sounds like Im on about something else :p :spank ) or you could burn / melt the paint!!

When mine was red it also faded i had to have the back bumper and bonnet done, but then after a bit i noticed other parts fadeding, by the end i had 3 differnent trips to the body shop for spraying.
I would def go for a full respray as it can cost less in the long run.
I was well impressed with the guy who did mine
