adrian flux were saying 3000.
adrian flux are good for modded cars but the rx id be getting wouldnt have any mods on it..
ive insured my metro gti with 1.8 conversion with them for the last year and my maestro turbo for good rates..
so if i get the rx then flux will just lose my business come renewal as 3000 is a joke :)

Ive got the same prob.
I\'m 25, had my bike licence 3 years but only had the car one for a year, noone will even qutoe me, my wife is 35 (winks) so having to put the insurance in her name, yet with me still on it the cheapest we can get is 1245 fully comp from elephant, thats with no ncd because its on our other car. It doesnt seem to matter that ive been riding a GSXR1000,  for 3 years

I\'m sure bell are part of some other group. Check the CC size stated, I\'d put money on it they quoted you on an RX7 with a CC of something like 2314cc not 2616cc. If that\'s the case and not 2616cc then they\'re quoting on an FC not an FD and they are much cheaper to insure.

Just from my experience.

cheers

Yep they quoted wrong, they did it on a 2.6 but only one turbo, i was gutted.
Ive just took insurance out with A quote 1137 fully comp, im not going to get cheaper than that. Makes you wonder how they work because my wife rang them for a quote in the evening, came out at 2500, but they rang back the next morning offering 1137, i had to take that one as i pick the car up on friday.....

Still not a bad price there Mark.

Bet you can\'t wait for the weekend now. Just take it steady if the weathers bad.... Actually take it steady even if it\'s good!

Im 21 and with bell paying £790 fully comp  :wiggle
Cant you add somebody else to your policy as a second driver took mine down £300!

MissRX7 - highly reccommended you check your policy as I\'m pretty sure that Bell gave me a good quote until I went over with a fine toothcombe and they were quoting on a 2354cc not 2616cc. Makes a massive difference as I think the 2354cc is group 16 whereas the FD 2616cc is group20.

Check it sooner rather than later, the £500 saving on insurance wont seem so good if you have an accident and suddenly find your insurance is invalid as for the wrong car.

cheers

I\'m 28, got 3 years NCB on my bike which counted as nothing towards my car insurance. My Rex was insured with no NCB living in London for £1012 fully comp for the 10 month policy with elephant, for some completely stupid reason it was £300 cheaper to put my girlfriend on my insurance who\'s 30 and can\'t drive properly although she\'s had a licence for 12 years(Sorry Gen!)
I really need to find a decent insurer for the mods, does anyone know the deal with how much you have to tell them? i.e. do you tell them it\'s ported when they can\'t see it?
And why-o-why do you have to insure it as a 2400cc or 2600cc??????????

Btw - Bell and Elephant are both part of Admiral

Beginning to wonder if all this modified business is what it\'s cracked up to be, I\'ve just had a quote based on 400bhp (had to notch it down 100 to get a competitive quote) and Adrian Flux quoted me £6538 based on 1 years NCB!!!!!!!!!
Where\'s the logic in that?????

Yeah thanks for the tip gareth but iv checked it and all seems fine :)
Sorry i forgot to add though i actually have the uk version rx so its probably  quite a bit cheaper to insure!  :cool

No experiance with performance cars,
Firtst insurance in my name,
Driving since 17
and I\'m paying £520 fully comp under a classic insurance (limited milage though!)

is it going to be your daily runner, or do you have another car? If its your 2nd car classic policy (if 10 years old or over) on a limited mileage should be cheapest way to go

The best thing to do in my opinion is just to get a piece of paper infront of you, write down all the numbers and names of loads of companies (at least 30!!) and phone them all!  That way has always worked best for me.

Dont worry about the phone bill as there will not be one.  Virtually all insurance companies are freephone quote numbers.

And I did say 30 - It doesnt take as long as you think.  I almost gave up on mine but the last company I tried quoted less than half of the next best (thay have been mentioned several times already!)

You have to try, I even had the phone put down on me from one company cause they thought I was taking the Pi55!

Another tip is to just say first thing - Will you insure a XX year old for an RX-7 (and if modified).  Some companies wont insure you if you are under 25 or if the car is modified etc etc - just saves giving all your details, getting junk and saves time!

HTH, Ricco

you guys best watch out as ive been just asking for mazda rx -7 type r sometimes or twin turbo. and getting quotes

now when i come to accept ive found out my type r is actually 2616 engine.
put that in your quote and its doubled.

my smallest quote is £1986 with firebond.
elephant = £3000
bell = £3000
norwich union = wont insure 2.6
admiral = £3000

im really upset. atleast i have the firebond one but i was not really looking to pay that kind of money for insurance :((

I know what you mean mate!! the 2.6 thing is a load of Bo***s, as every one knows they are a 1.3!!!
So what the hell is going on with these insurance companies..... can\'t they read the mazda manual or press releases???
It\'s like date rape but more expensive!!!!

I tried Adrian Flux and they quoted me 2k and I was 25 at the time !!

Tried loads of others and Houghton came up trumps in the end until it came to renewal time....

They quoted me more than I was originally quoted. A mate on the GTR website told me to ring A-Plan, I did and they came back after 30 mins giving me a quote that was over a 100 squid cheaper, no limited mileage, protected no claims and all my mods is 600 squid. I\'d give them a ring, they are just a broker and check whats the best quote for you.

Number is 0845 071 1234 speak to Matt, he sorted my insurance out.

Let us know how you got on.

will ring them tomorrow as they are shut now :(
are you guys actually asking to check the engine size as they always pick these up as 2354s instead of the 2616 which is what its mean to be for an FD.

At the end of the day the 2.6/2.4 thing is not whats making the difference, its the fact you are insuring a 150mph balls to the wall type of car!  Best quote I had when I was 21 was £760 with 4 years NCB and 4 years with a Full liscence, given the fact that I hate large inurance bills I went for an FC3S in the end.  Age is the limiting factor I\'m afraid, you are lucky to be getting quotes at all really :(

 Insurance, aint it great? ;)

Have a look through the other threads on here, there are loads of numbers to try.

This one seems to be giving good quotes:

http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18788

You might want to try Lifesure (http://www.lifesure.co.uk/motor.php) they were very helpful and knowledgable for me. Ring them rather than fill the form in, much easier.

Not sure what age limits both apply though, many are 25 or 30 + before insuring.

I seem to remember when I got my first FD, I wasinsured through Adiran Flux. Policy came through with Royal Sun Alliance, and said 2354 on the certificate. I called up, complained and said it was wrong, and the insurance company issued a new cert with 2616 on it. I did that for 2 years, so if something did happen there was no get out for them. Interesting thing is, I rang RSA directly on renewal, and they declared that they didn\'t insure cars in these higher insurance brackets!

Thing is, you take a gamble - you sign off the forms declaring all info is correct. So if you insure the FD as a 2354, you are in effect uninsured. It may sting you in the wallet but at least you\'ll be properly covered. But then £2k for a car thats worth 5 or 6k? Its alot, isn\'t it!

these are my results, thought it might be interesting for people my age when looking round, saves you ringing place that people keep suggesting but you end up finding out you need to be 25 :)
looks like its time to get a 2nd job as im going to paying £2k for a years insurance :)

best was firebond :
fire bond - 1986.15 fully comp (3rd party doesnt matter) 0870 444 0556
adrian flux = £2500-£3000
0800 458 6890 - hyperformance - £2750
Brentacre 01792 650 933 = no under 25s
heritage =  0121 2466065 no under 25s
Lifesure = 0870 366 1235 no under 25s
privilege = no under 25s
Hoddesdon Insurance Consultants 0845 121 2212 = no under 25s
Norwich union direct = dont insure 2.6 cars
egger lawson =         0115 941 5255 = never got cal back
elephant = £3000 - £1969 tpft
bell = £3000 - £1969 tpft
admiral = £3500
a-plan 0845 071 1234  no under 25s
alan and alan transfer first transfered me back to call connect and then when they retransfered me i waited a few minutes then it got cut off.
quote a - dont do 2.6s - on the 2.4 was coming up as £2500 anyway.
