Just a note that the HKS V-Mount is only an intercooler as far as I\'m aware, it re-uses the stock rad or you can get an aftermarket replacement.  The Knight Sports V-Mount is an intercooler and a rad, probably why it\'s more expensive.  I don\'t know anyone that has it though.

The Knight Sports V-Mount can run with twins or a single also.

As Jake said^

Bear in mind that the Knightsports kit comes with everything needed to bolt it on. Although air con needs to be relocated or removed to fit.

Would imagine that some custom brackets and hole drilling, etc is needed to fit the KHS system. Involves waiting for bits to be made :eek . No point in fitting without uprating the rad too.

Reckon the cost would be about the same after all the extra bits needed.

Knightsports is tried and tested ;)

Knightsport have different IC for different setups i thought, one for twins and one for single?! Also i prefer how there is less bends on the HKS unit as well. I know that the HKS does not have a rad with it, that does not bother me to much as i am looking at a feed rad or Koyo if i am feeling cheap lol.

I just prefer the way HKS looks on the setup, well maybe i will be the 1st to try lol

Title: V-Mount group buy
Post by: AdrianE on October 21, 2005, 03:10:53 PM
There\'s also the Rotary Extreme V-Mount, which is based on the Knightsports design and is available in different versions for twins and single turbo. Also, there\'s the \'monster\' version with a bigger I/C. But the prices for these have been too much for most people, ie. the monster for single turbo was $2850!! There is a group buy going on at RE as the bloke who owns it is selling the company. The prices have now dropped to $1950 for the monster single and $1750 for the \'regular\' (see http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=459138). For the \'monster\', that means approx. £1200 + VAT & Duty, if you assume $150 for delivery to UK. That\'s a lot cheaper than the basic Knightsports V-mount which REWorxs sells for £1685+VAT!!!

I\'ve been off the road for most of the summer as I\'ve still got overheating problems with my Apexi FMIC/ large rad setup on my FD. There\'s just no air getting to the rad (thru the I/C) so I\'m running water temps around 210degF, even with a Wisesports front spoiler (with large intake). I\'m thinking about ditching this setup and getting a monster v-mount, so I thought you guys might be interested too.

Cheers,

Adrian

I would say u have other issues with then as there are LOADS of people running GT-specs with no coolant temp problems. I would check the rest of setup carefully, otherwise you\'ll be buying another intercooler to replace one thats fine - a bit like the MicroTech u replaced with the Haltech! Had any joy with the E11 yet?

Finally, let me know what you want for the GT spec as I wil have it no probs :)

Yeah, it could\'ve been made worse by running too lean on boost, but the engine\'s still OK. I\'m waiting for a PLX wideband to arrive from the USA, so I can recheck the fuelling! And at least the whether\'s getting colder LOL...

I\'m pretty sure that Knight Sports only make one V-Mount.  I know that Miguel is running a KS V-Mount and he previously ran it with twins and now he\'s gone single so it should be OK with both.

The HKS does have fewer bends which is good, the core looks very thick as well.  The one down side I\'ve heard is that if you compare pictures the HKS intercooler is mounted much more in a vertical position compared to the Knight Sports, their intercooler is almost horizontal.  This means that with the HKS V-Mount the radiator has to be much more horizontal and therefore much lower to the ground.  I read on another forum about a guy who installed the HKS V-Mount and he was seriously worried about smashing his radiator fans off, apparantly they were about level or a bit lower than the front bumper and he wasn\'t running a huge radiator.  I\'d imagine that the Knight Sports isn\'t quite as low looking at that setup.

Knightsport do only make one V-mount but I think the standard set up is for a Twin turbo like mine  :)  but if you buy their single turbo kit you do get another pipe to go with their V-mount kit..

Well i if you look at the HKS (http://www.hks-power.co.jp/products/cooling/ickit/img/rv_layout.gif)

It looks like it will get plent of cooling for both rad and the IC, well i still think i will go for it, no point following the same old rule of thumb and no one else seems to have one so i will try it and see how i get on :)

Consider a vented head light cover with the I/C so close to the induction kit. Dragon do a slim line fan evidently.

Also are you going to dispense with the undertray? My Knightsport v mount is not as low as the HKS and I must say that when you go over gravel it makes you wonder what is happening underneath. Currently I have an undertray which half the size of the normal and I think this gives a degree of protection from road debri.

The KS set up suits both twins or single

I\'m pretty sure that HKS do a battery relocation kit with the V-Mount as an option.  The company you\'re buying off should be able to sort you out.
