As the title says!
1. What\'s a screamer pipe,
2. who can fit them,
3. would I have to have a remap and finally
4. do I need one. :D
Reason I ask is that there seems to be a fair few seriously modded cars out there RX\'s or otherwise who have clealy thought about what they are doing and spent a heap of money doing it and they have screamer pipes fitted.
As I understand it they vent turbulant gasses from the wastegate to the atmosphere but do they add anything to performance or are they just there to make a lot of noise!
Any help/advise would be much appreciated
Cheers

1. What\'s a screamer pipe,
A pipe from an external wastegate to atmosphere
2. who can fit them,
Anyone can fab-up an exhaust
3. would I have to have a remap and finally
Bearing in mind you\'d have to have an external wastgate first (and therefor probably a single turbo).... and that was all working already, then no I doubt it!
4. do I need one. :D
Depends, the do make a HUGE noise. They sound evil. That\'s about it :)
It sounds like a thunderstorm when they come on boost :D
Friggin awsome! can\'t wait \'till I\'m single :D
Get a single turbo, then rather than have the wastegate plumbed back into the exhaust, have it venting into the atmosphere, quite illegal tho due to the noise levels but going full boost past a coach or through a tunnel is pretty noisy!!
This raises a further dumb question then...
Can you only have a screamer on a single turbo set up (surely not)...

\'External Wastegate\' is the clue......
Twins do not have \'external wastegates\'.
rgds
You can\'t get a screamer pipe on the stock twins as it uses an internal wastgate (ie, inside the exhaust). So there is no way to have it vent to atmosphere.
I suppose you might be able to add an external wastgate setup to the twins. But that\'s a lot of money for no real gain (bar noise).
Pretty much all "Single" setups have an external wastgate, although the majority do plumb it back into the exhaust. Hence the general association between singles and screamer pipes.

Have you ever had your collar felt as a consequence mate?
I just can\'t believe old bill will not take an interest to a car that sounds like a jet landing.

You\'ll no doubt be amazed to here that I am not prone to giving it full bananas around Mr Plod !!! :rollin
As a rule, I tend to pop it into neutral and glide on by :wave
F40\'s have screamer pipes. They\'re road legal.

Out of interest, how do you go on with track days - if they\'re that loud they must exceed noise limits. I couldn\'t get my old Cerbera on the track because it ran at 129.8 db unless it was a \'noisy day\' which are getting fewer and fewer...
You may get past the initial back of the car test but on drive by...

Only had her a month, so no experience of the trackday noise spoilsports yet :D
I understand I\'m unlikely to even be allowed on the premises at Goodwood :rollin
The exhaust is so fduking loud anyway, I dont think I\'m allowed to play anywhere apart from Silverstone and Brands etc. Noisy days only for me :chat

Sounds like a fair assumption :D
For what it\'s worth Donington do noisy days as well so that\'s a whole 3 circuits to play at!
