Title: RX-7 3rd Gen 2000 mile check-up?
Post by: chrisBoid on August 24, 2003, 01:06:41 PM
Hi,

now I finally own a RX-7, it\'s time to get into the habit of giving it regular check-ups (apart from the normal service routine).

I seem to recall reading that every 2000 miles, some kind of check-up was recommended.  Can anyone tell me what is needed and is it possible to do it myself - bearing in mind I have never done anything like this before?

thanks.

You should check the oil level once a week. The rotary engines burn oil as part of it\'s engine cycle to lubricate the seals, the harder you accelerate is the more oil it injects. I tend to find that when you have new oil in that it burns very slowly so you don\'t need to top up too often but when the oil is around 3k old and a bit murky it burns alot quicker.

Could you suggest a suitable oil I should purchase; e.g. Castrol Formula SLX or Castrol GTX Magnatec (or something else/ better)?

Yeah use the mineral stuff dude. You can get the Castrol from most places, got mine for about £12 for 5.5 litres. Think it takes around 4.5 so its handy to top up :)
