Had a little conflab with Grinder today, told him what I\'d been working on at the weekend, and here for the benifit of everyone else who loves engines of any kind, I give you the Russel Newbury E4! :cool
The only other one of these we know of was the backup generator for Tower Bridge, it was removed some time ago and is now some where in the Heritidge system....
Me and the RN
My Dad and the E4
Last pic. We\'ve had it over 15 years, but had not run it since 1998, after about an hour of cleaning and freeing the injectors we got it going :D

LoL! That looks very similar to Guernsey power station, I watched those little diesels being installed, iirc you can stand u in the turbo inlet and not be able to touch the top....

Its a generator (50Kva) but we just have it for the sake of having it, for the joy of seeing it run and the way it makes the ground shake for 100m in every direction :D
Bet your neighbours really love you :)
My neighbours are all beneath contempt, so its not a problem :evillaugh

What is that monster crank from? :eek
Looks like something for a power station or an oil super tanker! Toally bonkers!
I saw a programme on Discovery a while ago about them building the huge super tankers, and to be able to put the engines together they had to dismantle the building that the bottom of it was built in and then lift it out and in to the hull of the ship. Then put the engine head on. It was just huge.
Doubt you\'d be able to get a head gasket for one of them at Halfords on a sunday afternoon :rollin
Adam
the most powerful diesel engine in the world apparently
http://www.bath.ac.uk/~ccsshb/12cyl/
omg - The 14 cylinder version makes One hundred and nine THOUSAND horsepower!! at 100rpm!!!
Thought I\'d give this very recent thread a bump :Giggle (WTF is with my hair?!?)
We moved the engine a couple of years ago to it\'s new home by the barn... gave it a run last weekend...and so by the wonders of Youtube:
And one to show the low idle speed:
purrs better then my Diesel Van,smooothhh impressive
just remember that it will never fit into a TII. :p
Fish
So when the power goes out your sorted, then your neighbors will become you friends !
Lovely bit of kit !
Shaun
Lol, there is a Lister startomatic installed to power the house etc... power cuts are quite common around there :Giggle
Lovely generator Brett 50kva you be able to power the street.
And a startomatic not seen one them in years
Worth a bob or two if it works as it should.
Our engine collection is rather extensive... got a couple of startomatic sets and maybe 50 other engines? (Should probably do some sort of audit)

LOL! He does get approached by the museums for help etc - but I suspect he favours straight talking a bit too much for a successful TV career :Giggle
Another couple of classic "clean" starts ;)
