Title: powerflex polly bushes
Post by: whinger on October 17, 2005, 03:10:19 PM
hi all

right i have got the ball rolling on pollybush making a set of bushes for fd3s , i have talked to tim darvill and he needs a rx 7 to put on the ramp for 30 min to an hour so they can decide which bushes they need to make for a kit.

also if anyone has any spare suspension arms that would be a big help too.

at the moment my car is off the road while i fix a few things for the mot and i dont really want to tow it 200 miles for them to inspect the bushes if another owner near to them can help.

if you ask for tim on

Tell you what, they can keep my car for as long as it takes to figure out what they need to do to replace all the bushes - only one condition - I keep the bushes!
Sounds like a good R&D opportunity for them and the benefits for me are obvious.

They are not too far away from me. Will be happy to go down there once my car is back on the road in the next couple of weeks or do they need someone now??

Funny that.  I had emailed them on Saturday to ask how much the kits where for the FD.  They said they dont have any prices but expect the kits in about 6 weeks.

Looks like you are the man!  :)

Nice one, some of my rear bushes need replacing soon. Hopefully they can shed a load of money off what is asked for the current OEM bushes.

This sis just what I wanted to hear, I need some poly bushes for my FD, because I an\'t afford the OEM ones, not all of them anyway.  If someone lets use know when they are avaliable to buy, I will deffinatly want a set.

Will be interesting to see how they affect the handling.  Recently found out on the other threads that the OEM one\'s are metal to metal and just have a weather seal!
Title: Any update on this???
Post by: mazda bait on November 16, 2005, 03:21:38 PM
Just wondering if there has been any progress on this.  I\'ve taken my car off the road this winter so if they wanted a car for a bit longer i could tow mine down for a week or so??

I\'ve been looking for some replacement bushes for a few months but unless your willing to go down the route of re-mortgaging, to buy original Mazda spares there\'s not many options out there !!! :)

Apologies for the hi-jack - but if anyone is still talking to Polybush about this, could they push them to come to Rotorstock too. We have written to them about trade stands/sponsorship (to somewhere in the midlands which I hope turns out to be their HQ?) but if they will have RX7 kits ready in May they would have alot more reasons to come - never mind anything they make for other Jap cars.

Hello ive been speaking to the man himself at reworx and he said not to bother as the mazda items are better due to them being spherical.  I would agree .    Your comments?  also reworx can do the mazda bushes about £20 cheaper then mazda themselfs
Title: powerflex polly bushes
Post by: allstaruk on December 15, 2005, 04:32:47 PM
I doubt veryt much that powerflex bushes would be up to the job of replacing the sperical bushes but not all the bushes on the rear of the FD a spherical there are 3 spherical and 3 normal on each side iirc.

The mazda bushes are renound for being very very good, I picked one up from reworx on monday and changed it on tue and the do offer them at a good price.

Be carefull removing the dust seals though they are easy to bend.

I said this earlier on in the thread (or another, I cant remember!  :2Rolleyes )

IIRC the Mazda ones are metal to metal with the weather seales to keep the dirt out.  The poly bushes will of course have more movement in them, so will they be any good or will the difference be minute?

I actually think it will be cheaper to buy from this UK company than the Group Buy from rx7club, plus you know no import tax might be added.

I have used this company before, and have always had quick delivery and advice if needed.

J.j. - think it works out a bit cheaper than that. I made it £211.84. You only need to choose one of the following:

Either - SPF1741K Superflex Bush(es) Front Lower Arm Rear Bush/ Kit of 2/ Standard Setting (1 only) £34.40 £30.96

Or - SPF1743AK Superflex Bush(es) Front Lower Arm Rear Bush/ Kit of 2/ Increased Caster Setting (1 only) £34.40 £30.96

Presume the increased caster setting will give you better grip for track days. Can someone (vendor) confirm if it\'s ok to run the car on the street like this or will tyre wear become an issue?

Or should we just be sticking with the standard setting ones?

Just spoken to someone who replied: "Increasing the Caster makes the car want to travel in a straight line, this should not alter the wear rate."

According to them, it\'d give you better cornering, and it\'s absolutely fine to use those on the street, shouldnt cause any excessive tyre wear either.  ;)

Andy_k: What is the negative affect of having more caster tho, does anyone know ?

To use the Incresed Caster bushes, firstly you will need "Topmounts" on your suspension which allow you to adjust the camber of the wheels. The bushes alone WILL NOT change the camber.
The negative effect(!) is that the car will always be wanting to go straight, so when you come out of a corner your car will straighten out quicker.
This characteristic would not be good for new drivers, elderly etc.
Manufacturers have to build a car which meets a broad range of requirements, and keep production simple and cheap.

I hope that helps.

Right.
Just got off the phone with superflex themselves.
Yes, they have made bushes for FD.  However, they\'ve only made bushes for the rear ends, apart from steering arm? at the front.  So basically everything from middle back including diff mount, bushes for shock absorbers, all the control arms etc etc.......

Hope this clear things up a bit.
