Grinder i will take some pics but im tellin ya someone has already tried patching them by welding and that paste stuff,  and tbh its a pretty ****ty job as there are still holes in them and the pipes/flanges are totally rusted to hell - i dont think its going to be difficult to take them off lol! mate id bid on the other exhaust if i was you even if its a temp measure or stop being so tight and buy a new one??

I can see what your telling me Brett, as it looks VERY similar to the one you got, it might not fit but then again my car already has a decat pipe fitted, even so if it doesnt fit i can always get that sorted and wont cost too much as i know  a guy who works at the local exhaust shop..

oy - stay away !! LOL

i have looked at it - but its nearly 200 miles from me - looks like a bidding war between me and the bandit !!

Nas , let me know about the boxes - i need ANYTHING to be honest - some pics would be great - i will even drive over , help you fit yours and bring the back boxes back with me ... yeah you can tell im desperate

i would buy an exhaust - but im not spending a fortune on the car when i dont know if it runs ok - once the exhaust is one - i can tweak and play - but at the mo - i just need them fitted - i dont mind welding them up - its something i can do at night - christ - i will cover them in exhaust bandage if need be

lol @ stu your alright mate...

erm when -- is when i get round to it! i think im gonna have a bash at getting em off tomorrow.

where -- on my drive way?!

how - erm with the aid of a whole can of wd40 and my electrical grinder to chop the bolts off!

ahh now the favour :D i could ask you to do all my dirty work but in this case how about you swap em for your lights and you get a nice cuppa tea when you deliver!? come round for em next week!? i have to check the rota but im working for the next 8 days in a row - so its going to be next week... it will probs cost you 15-20 quid in fuel as im only an hour away...

although you have to bear in mind its fasting time for us muslims so in the evening im eating and then praying.... so it measn your going to have to turn up in the day time i have to check the rota at work however im sure that  including wednesday im working 8 days in a row.. then i have a few days off..

in the mean time you could give me positive feedback (you as well Brett for that pressure thing!)

hows that sound buddy?   :wave
Title: new exhaust
Post by: grinder on October 17, 2005, 10:54:09 PM
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh .....................

to get the exhaust off - i would recommed you drop the ENTIRE exhaust - trust me on this one .. when i did the decat it was a real pain

much easier on the floor :)

i took the exhaust off the cab in about 1 hr ( OK the coupe took about 3 days !! )

swapping the lights for the back boxes ... oh shoot ... Hummmmmmmmmm thats certainly a hard bargain mate !

oohhhh crap i hate having to make a choice ... Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww no fair

im now stuck between a rock and a hard place .. i need the back boxes and you want the lights

this is gonna sound really bad - but can i get back to you with this .................................hang on .. i will cut to the chase ( always a first for me )

when i go the car off adam - he decided in his wisdom to paint the rear clusters with black paint - leaving little circle for the lights to shine thru - i dont want to get shut of the lights if mine are gonna fail the MOT , but i need the exhaust to see if the car will run to see if it will make it to the MOT first ......

arggggghhhhhhhhhhh i dont know what to do .... this is really bad ....

Nas i dont know what to do ??????

in the mean time .. im better at weekends for coming down or it means taking a day off work ... what are they like for you .. pending outcome of gut wrenching decission ...

Stu
Title: new exhaust
Post by: FD3SNuttah on October 17, 2005, 11:01:43 PM
mate you didnt realise that i have my old lights!? if you fail the MOT heres a promise you can lend mine! hard bargain maybe but you are really paying just 30 quid for the back boxes thats a bargain in my book, and they really arnt that bad you know...
Title: new exhaust
Post by: grinder on October 17, 2005, 11:03:27 PM
LOL :D

what lights are yours ??

quickes

1 - are they working
2 - in one peice
3 - EGI ?

i wonder if they would fit the cab ?

Title: new exhaust
Post by: FD3SNuttah on October 17, 2005, 11:15:35 PM
come on stu - i did say back boxes FREE you can get cheaper than that! and my cups of tea are the nicest in the world.
Title: new exhaust
Post by: FD3SNuttah on October 18, 2005, 02:12:01 PM
well my new exhaust has arrived and its well nice! im going to have a look at the old one today i think.
Title: new exhaust
Post by: FD3SNuttah on October 18, 2005, 07:16:45 PM
it was too cold so i stopped indoors so i didnt remove my old exhaust, im planning on getting it resprayed early next month so i thinking of swapping it after the lick of paint so i dont get any overspray on there. Grinder you cant still be thinking about it can you!? i had a proper look today mate. and its my y pipe thats dead, the back boxes are in pretty good nick for an fc!

i think it might just fit actually! i have a decat on there already as well, it bolts up to the standard y pipe and the hangers appear to be in the right place / angle.
aah the project is nearly there. al i have to do is fix the other sill (its a bit damaged from when a numpty jacked the car up on it, and the indicators i should be home free after my respray... lol just in time for winter !
Title: new exhaust
Post by: grinder on October 18, 2005, 08:14:31 PM
right nas , im really confused now

so the back boxes are FREE - that i can compute..

so where do my rear lights fit into this equation ??

i have looked on multi map and Sheffield town centre is about 70 miles from me - so i have no idea where that puts you

Stu .. confused ?!???!
Title: new exhaust
Post by: FD3SNuttah on October 18, 2005, 10:11:08 PM
that puts me very close actually, i work in sheff and its a 20 min commute..

i live in Doncaster mate my post code is DN4 7RD its just the next town north probably closer to you than what sheff is. if you jump on the m62 East and then head down the A1 south you see sunny donny! its not far mate, sometimes we drive to wilmslow road just for a kebab.

I want to swap my back boxes for the lights. i think that they are worth the same...
Title: new exhaust
Post by: grinder on October 18, 2005, 10:53:51 PM
.................................  thinking .....................................

i will get you a defo answer tommorrow ... i still dont think the lights are worth the same as the exhaust - but this is something we need to thrash out ... i think the lights are worth more... for example :

Hiya Nas :D,

just looked where doncaster is - your over 90 miles away .... so im looking at a possible 200 mile round trip - so that £20 - £25 in juice :(

this is getting more expensive by the day !! ( not to mention the shouting from the better half :) )

so let me get this right - you want me to drive 200 miles then do a straight swap .. lights for back boxes ??

hummmm to be honest Nas , thats not gonna happen :(

best deal i can come up with at this moment intime is :

i swap my back lights for your back boxes and EGI lights - and we meet up half way - we can compare goods at that point :) - i dont have that much free time on my hands these days ( if we can do that - i suppose we could do it at night time aswell )

let me know what you think

cheers

stu :) :D

Post by: FD3SNuttah on October 19, 2005, 11:01:59 AM
why dont i give you the rest of my car as well?

30 quid for the lights and 20 quid in fuel thats fifty pounds not a bad price for a pair of back boxes. good luck in finding an exhaust for cheaper!?
Title: new exhaust
Post by: grinder on October 19, 2005, 12:56:16 PM
hummmmm

hows about i give you £30 for your back boxes then - i collect from your house - and if you can get some S5 lights cheaper then we all are happy ???

cheers Nas

hows about meeting me half way and you keep your tenner

in all honesty - its the 200 mile drive ( or 4-5 hrs ) that more of the killer !

should have took it off today, but didnt eat enough in the morning and i was cream crackered.

im gonna have a go for tomorrow,  did have a look under neath to get an idea. theres a patch on the y pipe wher the old rusty bit has been cut off and a bit of "replacement" pipe has been erm rather crudely put on. it also looks like someone has used this greay paste on the flanges i hope its not like glue!.  im going to try my best to get it off in one piece so if you need that Y peice bit you can have it too...

hard to say mate, i think they are louder than a stocker yeah, but not where you run the risk of an asbo.. they were brown with surface rust but i gave em a good seeing to with the wire brush and then coated the worse areas with rust converter and then gave em a quick spray with black primer. should last you a nice long while... let us know what you think when you fit them mate.

Mate, you\'ve been warned about starting armageddon in the street!!!  ;)
Is yours the full system or is it from the CAT back?
Title: new exhaust
Post by: FD3SNuttah on October 30, 2005, 12:54:09 PM
Brett. The car already came with a decent "aftermarket" down pipe (its welded in sections to make the bends) i think its bespoke and not a named brand and i also have a de cat pipe already.(on closer inspection the de cat pipe is like a straight through silencer not just a simple tube), they are in pretty good condition still so i bought a cat back system, looks just like the one you have matey.

i fitted it in like ten minutes it bolted straight up no problems actually fits perfect (dare i say)  so jobs a good un.

the old system didnt need much work to take off thanks to my trusty electric angle grinder! lol
