Title: Scuffing on seats already!
Post by: db2boy on October 14, 2005, 04:03:26 PM
Folks,
Anyone else have problems with their RX-8 seats scuffing/peeling already? Both drivers and passengers seats are scuffed on the sides already and have even started to peel in places - this is after only 17000 miles and lots of TLC! Im very concerned and angry - amongst the 2 other recalls being completed on the nose cone and the alloys!

Anyone had similar issues with the leather seats please?

Thanks

Ant

Mike thanks. I was actually moaning about the leather itself and not the seat backs. Thanks for pointing out though.

Maybe you have what they call in the states a "Big Ol\' Ass"

Just kidding :p
Seriously, doesn\'t sound good for such a new car thats for sure.
But there usually is something that goes on a car early.. maybe this is the achillies heel.

Erm no to the first bit!
It isnt good no and I think Im going to have to pick Mazda\'s ear about this. It also seems more like plastic than leather, its very thin!

^ Ant, is it the \'ribbed\' bit\'s on the seats that you mean? If so I believe these are some sort of \'plastic\'. Any pos of some pics mate?

Ian.

Ribbed sides are definitely plastic and straight away I can imagine Mazdas answer/question.

Are you in the habit of wearing jeans. Oh! that will be the studs in the pockets of the jeans then sir, nothing much we can do about that.

Seriously, there does not appear to be any other reports of similar damage on the owners club site or on the site in the US.

Most of the miles in the RX-8 have been in a suit - and the ones I wear dont appear to come with rivets in.

If the seats are that prone to a jean rivet damaging them then the handbook or maybe the dash should have a "Only soft silk or cotton clothing to be worn in this vehicle!" warning in/on?

Previous cars I have owned with leather had 5+ times more miles on than the 8 without a hint of what has happened to the seats in the 8! 18 months and 17k miles I dont expect to be alarmed at the damage and wear occuring.

Ant,

Was only suggesting a possible scenario, as most people tend to wear jeans at some stage and Mazda will find any reason to get off the hook.

There certainly does not seem to be any damage to mine after 2 years and 26k miles and I mostly wear jeans, and there does not appear to be any problems reported on the owners club site in respect of unusual wear.

Would return to the dealer and complain like hell and see what their take on the situation is.

Ray,
I agree, I think Mazda will try and worm there way out of it, thank you for pointing out a scenario, I think it is the sort of rubbish they will come up with :(

I had a snoop around and also couldnt see anything but I just cant believe my seats have started to do this so soon, especially as the car (including the seats) have always had lots of TLC.

Should be back at dealers this week as I have the alloy corrosion problem and my alloys are being replaced - Ill have a word then and see where we go from there! I suspect not far!

Thanks

Mine are OK after 33000 miles and some serious abuse from sliding around them on track and the occasional hot or cold drink or food spillage....

Is it BOTH sides?
