Post by: chrisJDM on October 13, 2005, 07:40:34 PM
just fitted my apexi power fc i bought second hand, fitted fine, car sounds alot better more smoother, and idles alot better seemed to be a bit rough idling before, just took it for a drive and the dash light with HEAT keeps flashing intermitently mainly when i accelerate, and it did it straight away when i drove of so the car couldnt hav got hot that quickly, any idea wot the problem is??

It sounds like the knock warning. it would definitely be worth having a specialist look at it.. it may well be a false warning but you really don\'t want to be booting the car if it\'s detonating.

its your knock sensor showing detonation in the engine (really really really bad thing lol)

i advise you get it tuned straight away and dont drive it too much as you will end up blowing it up.

The heal light flashing is either Knock or Injection duty.

The knock level is set to flash at anything over 60 (bit consevative) but bear in mind a knock sensor is only a microphone and can pick up other noises as well.

Mine flashs now and then, usually reads about 65 - 75 but it happens randomly, like when i pull away or i am just going slow.

Best bet is get a commander if you have not already so you can monitor the levels, and defiately get it mapped ASAP as the base map is not really suitable for long term use.

If in doubt, take it easy until its mapped.

When I put my power FC into my mota the knock was unbeliveabley high (142 peak every time! which would have blown a tip in 10 seconds)  I took it to pip who said the sensor is fine (which is annoying as it will thus never read right!) and it is picking up other noises.

I think only way to be sure is to get a pro to look at it.

The base map is for Japanese fuel too (higher RON) and is suppost to go slightly lean on and just before the redline, so I read.

well i am currently using Super unleaded (97 RON), if i get a octane booster may this sort out the problem???

It may lessen the problem but you really should get it checked out. It may well be the knock sensor picking up other noise (mine does this sometimes when you lift off the throttle) but you should get this verified by a specialist if you\'re unsure.

yes i will definetly get this looked at, i have a small crack in my manifold at mo, maybe this is causing the noise that its picking up???  :xconfused  anyways will get the manifold sorted and get the power fc mapped and get it all sorted

Do you have a commander with the PFC? If you bought it second hand the previous user may have made some changes. It would be best to initialise all so that it is back to its default settings. After doing this you will have to go through the idle learning procedure again.

did you have to go though the idle learning curve when you installed it in your car?

Good, at least you know it has been reset. As the others have said best get it checked out. You would be able to get a better idea if you had a commander. Might just be a faulty knock sensor, or a mapping session.
