Title: Moggie info please?
Post by: Ricco_04 on October 13, 2005, 01:13:01 PM
Ok, its time for me to pick all yer brains again!

My main car is pretty much dead.  Rather than having a hi-flow sports cat and needing to replace it every year I want to replace it for good (if you follow me!)  Anyway, the Mazda replacements are £1000 + vat  :eek

So what do you recon If I can get a cat off a car from the breakers and have it made up to fit my car?  Say something like from a Vectra V6 so it will be a reasonable size?

I dont even know if this is possable but would have thought so?!

What you recon peeps?   :xconfused

You are talking about the Cat in the exhaust system right ?

If so why don\'t you just stick a decat pipe in instead.
I would say around 100 quid fitted.
Obviously just make sure your not running lean after doing so.

HTH.

No idea why you would need to replace the high flow CAT every year? MOT time???

WGT can do a high flow CAT for approx £450ish.

It was at WGT where Pip told me that the Hi-Flow ones he supply\'s need replacing every 3 years cause thats there approximate life span.

I want the cat in else I wont pass emissions (its also illegal to decat your car ,if UK, after 1993 or August 1994 cant remember which)  The latter doesn\'t bother me but with the linking up of the MOT testing stations there is no longer a "friendly" mot man!  I have been told both that they can still pass you and again that its impossable to let you thru  :xconfused

I can\'t decat and put the main cat back in again for MOT time as the main cat is past it?

So little unsure of what I need to do now     (as usuall! :D )

i dont think you will be able to fit a vectra ect cat to your car, cus the rx7 exhaust system runs so hot. Also your gonna be compromising performance going down that route. try getting a straight through cat replacement pipe made up, buy a standard cat, then fit the standard cat for mot time, then fit the straight through pipe for play time :cool

Thats what I wanted to do, untill I found out that they cost £1175 NOT fitted!

I love my car to bits but then I see the Jap ones with a lot less miles on with all mods & remaps etc, but I want mine as I know its sound and UK etc (touch wood :) )

Mmmm, shame about the EGT but thanks for the info as I knew the must be some kind of reason I couldn\'t do that.  I think Pip quoted £280 + vat (£329 inc) for theirs so this one actually works out the same price roughly taking into account the lifespans.

If I decatted the downpipe and tried to pass emissions on what I have but fail - would I need a remap if I put a new one in?  (im thinking no as it is more of a restriction?)

Mmmmm - I know, anyone got a low mileage main cat for sale?? This would work?

I\'m sure there is someone out there that would have a cat going, then just de-cat and swap them MOT time its a pretty easy job.
