Title: air pump removal
Post by: tr1cky on October 11, 2005, 07:00:28 PM
Hi guys,

Recently had new exhaust and midpipe fitted, so no longer require the air pump.

I know I require new pulleys for engine and alternator to run shorter belt elminating the air pump.

What I need to know is does it simply unbolt and job done :xconfused  :xconfused or do I need any other parts? blanking plate maybe?

Thanks for any help :wave

Rich

Simple answer is yes you do need other bits. Best thing to do, as you are so close to RE:WORX at Portsmouth, is to pop in and see Geff or Chris. They can explain all and they should have the bits in stock. Give them a ring mate. HTH. :wiggle

If you remove the air pump while still using the stock ECU you may find it is jerky at town speeds. This is because the air pump not only supplies the exhaust with air but also the inlet manifold. The ECU will still chuck in the same amount of fuel with less air and you will run rich at low speeds. You may find you need an adjustable ECU like the APexi to run smooth at low speed.
If anyone disagrees please comment.

Phil

Just spoken to the guy\'s @ RE:Worx,

A blocking plate is also needed to do the job, sorry didnt find out how much ££ exactly. As got quote for fitting new injectors also, which the air pump has to come out to get at them.

They have parts instock for it though, give them a bell 02392698100.
