Title: Gearbox oil...
Post by: ScuttleRX on October 11, 2005, 05:13:03 PM
Has anyone read this months j-tuner. They speak to an gearbox specialist and they recommend 15w40 engine oil for the gear box...reckon gearbox oil isnt very good in the winter, cant remember if they said too thick or too thin, left the mag at work.

Anyone got any views on this, will be changing gear box oil soon.

We have supplied several race & high performance bikes with 10w40 for there clutches so dont see any reason why you cant put it in the gear box, the film strenght of Royal Purple is certainly up to it, but would not like to comment on other makes, theres not one oil on the market that will come close to the film strength of R.P
Personally on a rd car I would stick with there max gear oils.

I would stick with a proper Gear oil, they have better load carrying capability.

FYI 75w-90 = 10w-40 in engine oil terms.

Cheers
