Well I took the plunge and bought a Greddy SMIC from the US. I have managed to get it for £400 shipped. Its meant to be in good condition so fingers crossed all is good.
Who has a Greddy SMIC fitted? Could I get some pictures posted.
What is involved when fitting it? And will I need to get the car remapped (I think the answer is, of corse not but im not 100%)

Hi Steve,
You definitely need a remap mate, nothing major but you will need to add
fuel throught the map. What mods do you have already, as with fitting this intercooler if you don\'t have them already you will need bigger injectors, or maybe you can get by for now with a aftermarket fuel pump.
I just fit mine. Fitment is nearly perfect. I only had to cut off the notch on the side of the battery tray so it cleared the pulley and big rad hose.
The piping supplied is good for connecting to the stock elbow. I have to get a bit of pipe made so I can use my Greddy elbow.
The only thing you will take you time will be to fabricate some ducting. They do not come with any ducting and could benefit from it a lot.
It\'s supposed to use the stock ducting that\'s why.
Steve I\'ll take mine to town next time I\'m down & you can have a look at mine its a Trust/Greddy

I have a greddy/trust intercooler & to my knowledge I dont have bigger injectors or an uprated fuel pump but my car was mapped by RE-A as it was running thier ECU & all the other mods had been carried out by them
Yeah, im surprised about the extra fueling needed. I also thought I might get away without needing a remap. If thats the case then its going to be sitting around doing nothing for a long time!!!
No doubt in the for sale section soon!!!
I\'m telling you guy\'s what I know and have tested for myself, not what I read on the internet.
The only way you won\'t need a remap is if you are running very rich already.
This time of year is very crucial in having the correct afr.
The chipped ecu\'s like re-amemiya trick the injectors to stay open a little longer hence they run richer than a stock ecu, I have seen many of these with no other fuel mods go on the dyno and atleast 70% run lean under boost, with exhaust system induction kit &intercooler. The one\'s that don\'t run lean are the ones that run a uprated fuel pump also.
In Steve\'s case he has an apexi. a full remap is not needed just need to add some more fuel is a few cells which would probably take 15 20 minutes.
On a 98 rx7 iwth re-amemiya downpipe, stock cat, blitz catback, blitz induction kit, greddy smic, and apexi ecu I owuld hit 100% duty cycle every time. This was on the base map that comes with the apexi ecu.
I removed the greddy smic and replaced with a stock intercooler, and instantly my injector duty cycle went down to 74%
This was not even at this time of year where air is more desne this was in the middle of summer. This was ntoi a one off test this was done repeatibly over a few weeks with consistant results.
I know you give good information Brian. I am just a little surprised that it would need the fueling looked at if fitted.
Suprised too here... Not an engine expert but had lots of experience playing with turbo cars etc and suprised that fitting the bigger IC would require more fuel. all your doing is reducing the charge temps. If anything some people suffer boost drop across a bigger IC and may require less fuel????
Just my 2p worth
Brian, with adding the Greddy SMIC what fueling mods would you suggest?
1300 secondaries?
Fuel pump? What kind?
would I need a fuel regulator?
You are reducing the charge temps but colder air is more dense there for there is more of it needing more fuel.
[yoda voice]more air leads to more fuel, more fuel leads to bigger bang and a bigger bang leads to the more BHP Side . [yoda voice over]
hmm, still not convinced by all this, there is more flow yes but not more volume because thats worked out via pressure and unless your running more psi there shouldnt be a difference.... (or at least not enough to require a new fueling set up?!?)
You are not increasing the volume of air going in your increasing its density.
I know I just said that.... ;)
I honestly dont believe that IC isnt big enough to have an effect big enough to chuck the fueling out.... for a start sticking a bigger IC in that place wont be very effective as the air flow is very poor there and any bigger IC will probably be worse for the car due to heat soak...
IMO off course ;)
When I had the ARC smic my injection went up to 93% at 0.9bar. It wasn\'t as thick as the one in the pics though so would have been higher if it was.
Steve you would only need a nother set of 850 secondary injectors to replace the stock 550 primaries. Bigger fuel pump is not needed for your mods, the stock pump is more than enough at the mo,
I\'ve tuned enough fd\'s now to talk from experience rather than educated guessing. Allstaruk is correct. Get yourself a wideband and datalog your afr on a few runs. Fit your new intercooler and do the same and see the difference in your afr. Running your injectors at & above approx 90% duty cycle is not recommended and will end in injector failure.
Thanks brian, good to know I don\'t have to start with fuel rails and all that other expensive stuff.
