Title: More queer boost problems??
Post by: G@NDY on October 07, 2005, 07:04:16 PM
Some of you may have read my other threads about all the turbo boost issues that im having, basically on the change over after the initial 0.8 of boost on the first tubby it then drops to 0.4 and thats where it stays all the way up until the buzzer. but a couple of weeks ago i noticed a sort of pulsing hissing noise when on WOT, but looking at the commander it seemed like it was reaching full boost, so i was happy. Today, i fitted a boost gauge that i bought of the dreaded electronic bay! and it seemed that the noise ties in with a funny gauge needle wobble  :xconfused  if i give it 3/4 throttle the needle goes up to 0.8 (on the first) and holds, but if i give it it full beans it fluctuates between 0.8 and 0.7, at the same time as the hissing noise, quite fast. 7, 8, 7, 8, 7 you know!?! like that :p  Any ideas peeps?????

Sounds like you hava a boost leak at +0.8 bar.

It maybe that the dodgy pipe can hold 0.8, but when on WOT boost wants to rise slightly more than 0.8 which opens the split in the pipe and the boost drops quickly to 0.7 allowing the split to close. Then builds again and split opens etc.

Heres where to look first.

A: See the blue pipe, check that is not leaking, sometimes you have to actually take it right off to see if it has a split in it, mine was leaking here and i only found it when i removed it for a look.

B: Check these as well, especially the very bottom one, as this runs very close to the pulleys.

if all these check out ok, just have a general look around, follow the pipes al the way from the filters to plenum checking all the connections, its really just a process of elimination

Thanks Nick, i will have a look at (A) sometime this week, i thought it could be that and ive been trying to get hold of a later model metal efini \'y\' pipe, but they seem very expensive. I only found out they were a good upgrade this week, and i did a quick search on here and looks like i have missed out on a couple of people selling in the last month or so.

Yeah, me! :D haha! I just bought one recently as its a good reliability mod. But, as you say, pricey - £100 second hand.

If your running standard corigated pipes to and from the intercooler, take them off and pull, bend and twist them \'cos they have a habit of splitting with age! I had to replace mine the other day because the one going in to the IC split, so I made a s/steel one :spank !

No does\'nt make any difference being a UK one, just nice to know who has what, especially as the pukka UK ones ar\'nt that common.

Well, i have just come in from the garage and i have checked the plastic pipe that connects to the intercooler pipe and the \'y\' pipe and all seems fine there :xconfused was hoping this could have been the solution as it could have been an easy fix, but when is that ever the case :spank
