Title: Thermotec exhuast wrap?
Post by: jamie_eaton on August 21, 2003, 02:14:59 PM
After ordering an exhaust wrap kit from Demon Tweeks catalogue i thought is it actaully worth it?.
I got the inch thick by 50 foot long kit with the hardening spray to prolong life of the wrap and help it keep even cooler.
Question is has any one ever tried this?.
The place i take my car to said the manifold is too small for it to go on so he is just going to cover as much of the down pipe onwards.

I would have thought given the heat output from the turbo\'s, not a lot of difference...

I tried the wrap and spray on a previous car, also got the wrap and sray from demon tweeks.  It wasnt that noticable at all, but if you get something to measure the temp you will see the difference.  Makes the exhaust look ugly if not done neatly and can get tricky to put round the manifold.  Local rally guy uses it all the time and swears by it.

Do you think the turbo wrap kit may be a good idea then??, it says that it keeps temp down and reduces turbo lag therefore increasing power.
Thing is it is about 130 quid for the kit!!.
Is it really worth it?

I guess it depends on how serious you are about a little temp difference, I cant remember the technical jargon about it but speak to Chris at Demon Tweeks he will explain it in good detail.

Im looking into wrapping and ceramic coating, been told done properly you can almost touch it.

Dont wrap the exhaust side of te turbo, make a heat sheild and wrap the underside. wrap the manifold and down-pipe. I would not go for a kit I would just buy the parts and some of the decent fasteners.

im not exactly sure what this does but wouldnt this be bad for the car performance wise?? as i imagine it you are trapping heat inside the exhaust that the normally conductive metal would let into the atmosphere, but by trapping it inside it would have to come out either exhaust end, or rise up to the engine side, so wouldnt this make the engine bay area much hotter?? just a thought :P

I believe exhuast wrap aids in the cooling of the manifold/exhaust.

exhaust wrap will make the turbo\'s and exhaust tubing, baffles, cat etc. run hotter than it normally would. The basic theory behind exhaust wrap is to keep everything around the exhaust from getting hot and it has effect in increasing the gas velocity due to it loosing less energy.
