Im looking for some ideas on what I can do with my car next.
I will be working with a very limited budget but end of next year the cars paid off so that will free up some more ££££
Currently my car has:
Apexi PFC
M2 Intake (carbon box with 2 K&N filters)
Silenced De CAT
Blitz back box
Now, Im sure I have a problem with the stock twins but Pip managed to map the car (with a strange map he said) and get 300 at the fly (and his Dyno at the time was known for reading on the fairly low side).
I think I should get them taken out and sorted but I don\'t want to spend more cash getting them out only to find no fault there. What other option would I have instead (not really interested in going single at the moment).
Next I think I should turn my attention to a SMIC. I don\'t do much miles, nor do I race the car in any way, so im happy with a SMIC. Any reason why I should not go for a SMIC?
What else could/should I be looking at??? I am interested in getting some more horses out of it but done very safe. Its a major pain in the ass driving to WGT as its a 6-7 hour drive for me just to get there.
Ideas please!
Pulling the actual turbo\'s and looking for play will be costly. Or it could be a smaller problem, prehaps with the actuators etc.
I would say up the Intercooler, so a big\'ish SMIC. If you are after more horses, then this will allow you to up the boost. Not significantly but more boost!
If you up the boost then you need a Boost controller, so theres something else.
Thereafter if you want even more power, you will probably need a FMIC or V Mount, change the fuel pump, injectors and WI.
How much are you looking to spend?

What Freddy said, and go nonsequential too, the problem solving is a lot easier with most of the vacuum gubbins out! :D :3gears-rh

Yep yep, well said dude. Go non sequential. :bandit
Also remove air pump.
And remove the aircon too! No need for it in scotland! :D
Freddy - Hows you mate?

Doing good mate, trying to sort out the track car! Check your PM. ;)
how do you go non sequential witht he twins .... how does that work and what do you need to do ?
Steve - I have basicly the same as you ..
Apexi PFC
twin HKS
Katimoto full through
Blitz BOV
And i am going the Charge Cooler route as the next mod. Something different :D

Check this link mate, i followed these instructions when my engine was in rebuild land and am very happy with the results. You have to bare in mind that this is for an american car so when talking about driver/passenger side you need to think the reverse.
I also got a set of twins that had the wastegate enlarged on them.
Cheers
Donato
thanks mate .. ill have a wee read :D
what differences are there between the 2 set ups .. that you have noticed ?

PM back mate. :burnout

Sorry for the Hijack Steve!!
Much better on track because you know the second turbo isnt going to spool up half way round the corner your accelerating through. Its basically the same as a small single turbo, i really like it, you have plenty of power at low end and no temporary lag in boost when going through the revs. I did a lot of work to the rest of the car at the same time so not really a good comparison as i added about 100bhp with all the various mods... and removed the aircon and airpump
You get to rip out lots of vacuum things too which makes problem solving lots easier...
Cheers

Steve - you could just buy an uprated fuel pump and a fuel pressure regulator and just get a remap with your PFC to run a bit more boost then you\'ll be allright for some more horse power!!
I\'d go for a front mount intercooler too, keep your intake temps nice and cool!!

The car spent a fair while and some £800(ish) looking for the fault first time round. Then next time I went down I got the Apexi fitted and the car running well. Id say almost everything has been looked at except the turbo\'s. I think they might be next then.
Air pump is disconnected but still in there. I think I\'ll head to Pips next year and get a couple of things done if I can afford too (just bought a house and Im getting married next year).
What sort of cost are you looking at to go non sequential? What additional mods are required? Intercooler? Would I then need to look at my fueling? If I do what sort of cost is that?
Also I might be able to get a really good condition Greddy SMIC for £450 (is this a good price?) Would I need to look at any other mods if fitting it? Also can I fit it right away with out remapping the car or is that a bad idea? Why?
O the qustions! there are loads to be asked!!!!!

Not a problem, you and Freddy are decent guys so hijack away. Just remember to answer my questions. The non-seq. questions are aimed at you!! :)
I\'ve got a trust SMIC air temps never seem to go over 40 on pfc. & all the pipes are nice & cool even after a good run. So I\'d recommed it, or there is the group buy on chucks V mounts
Right mate, costs..it all depends on your mechanical know how, if you can do the work yourself then you will save a packet. If you read the link then you can see there are not to many parts involved, i made the blocking plates from a sheet of aluminium i got from a friendly metal supplier, cost - £0.
the costs of the other bits i couldnt remember but they were necessary as i was going through a rebuild anyway so all the gaskets were required. I cant remember the exact costs of the gaskets.
It would be an idea to look at a bigger intercooler but its not a neccessity to go front mount for non sequential as far as i know...
Fueling, i got an uprated pump from Pip, if i remember it was around £100 and i have 1300 secondaries again supplied by Pip (check costs with him as i cant remember) I can boost up to 1 bar safely and that does me 300bhp at the wheels is enough for me and my driving abilities.. :3gears-rh
If you do decide to go down that route then i would be happy to lend you a hand as i have done it before..
Cheers

Steve,
Firstly reducing the intake temps is a good saftey measure and is my next mod. There are various views on whats best. I\'ve heard a larger SMIC is not always good because of heat soak. Front mount or V mount can get expensive, same goes for the charge cooler route. Personally I\'m going down the WI route with standard IC. A few guys on here are running this with very good results. Kits start from 200 quid ish. Do a quick search on here as theres a fair bit of info on them.
Re fueling as Donato says a bigger fuel pump and bigger injectors are the way to go. 100 quid ish for the fuel pump from WGT. I was lucky and got a 2nd hand set of injectors but new they weren\'t cheap (check with Pip).
Good luck with your modding.
Rich :)
One other thing I\'m on a standard sequential setup and running similar bhp to Donato so going non sequential will not really increase bhp just alter the way the power comes in and driveability.
Rich :)
Steve , save your money on the SMIC/ FMIC and invest in WI and uprate you fuel pump and injectors, if the engine is sound you will see some good results, all you then need is a good boost controller and whack it up to 1 - 1.1bar :guinness

John your a man that knows about non seq! What all did you do in order to do it?
Intercooler?
Fueling?
Mapping session?
Boost controller?
Is it worth it?
I don\'t do 1/4 miles, I don\'t do circuits (id crash!) I just like my car and would like more power. Im not too bothered about the performance of it on track as it won\'t see that sort of action. I think I wan\'t to stay as close to the stock set up as possible. i.e. im not interested in going single or getting a charge cooler.
Im sure there is a fualt in the turbo\'s so im gonna have to address that, just thought while I take then out id be better to do something to them at the same time.

He he :cheers as yer man Donato says it cuts out all the bits that can go wrong with the seq. setup, port the exhaust out for a free\'er flow and it is just like fitting a TO4e [or better], uprate the injectors, pump, fit a boooost controller + a mapping session = 300+ATW :cool a very cheap way of going single add WI and you have a VERY safe powerfull Rex.
Sounds like a plan, shame the funds arn\'t there at a moments notice!
But, this does give me my ideas for future, so thanks.
I think I\'ll see about buying a SMIC, finding out where a set of non seq. are hidding in Scotland (not stealing from Donato\'s car!!) and then price the fuelling mods and get it done.
Like most things I do to this car it will take ages, I have suspension and wing mirrors that I have had for well over a year still to go on the car!!!
I\'ll need to get goods costs on this.
Boost controller = £200ish
SMIC = £450
Fuel pump £150ish?
Injectors = ??? (I had heard bad things about 1300\'s)
Water Injection = £200ish (not sure if I\'ll do that at the same time)
Mapping session = £150ish
Labour = £600ish
How does that very very rough in my head calculation sound?
If any one has more comments please add them, this thread ain\'t closed yet. I\'ll still be thinking.
If you have any engineering skills buy a good set of twins and mod them yourself, you dont need a SMIC- use the one you have and fit WI it will reduce your intake temps from 50\'s down to 20\'s when on boost. If you dont trust 1300\'s go 850 all round, never had a prob with my 1300\'s
Costs:
Set of twins £200 [if you dont use your own]
Porting and change over £250
WI £200
Injectors + pump £400
Boost cont. £200
Mappin ses. £200

Ha ha, youd think a design engineer might have some skills but not me :p
Sounds like very good results from the WI. I\'ll need to start looking into that further.
Ill jump on the WI wagon and might go WI to start with ... sounds the cheapest way to get intake air temps down as i wont be tracking it and only the odd 1/4 mile .
For the price, cant fault it, simple way of reducing air temps and reducing detonation. Can drive without constantly worrying about the intake temps :)
Wont be AS effective on 1/4 mile as it is for track days as you\'ll still get the heat soak in the queue, but it will stop the air temps hitting silly figures when you do race so still good :D drop a bit of methanol in there too :D
