I finally picked up my rx-7 last night I am well impressed with the car you get so much attention driving around in it!     :)

Only thing is when I am in second and put my foot down it doesn’t really seem to shift as fast from 4,500 rpm upwards but under that it pull s like anything??

Any suggestions please???

Thanks

Shaq

Get yourself a boost gauge fitted. This will indicate if there is a boost problem.

It could be a blocked cat, this can make it feel flat above 4000 rpm.

What boost gauge do you use/recommend?

There seems to be mechanical, electric, electric with replay and peak functions...

fish,

It has got a boost guage fitted i will check the boost tonight, but it pulls good in between 1,500 rmp - 4,000 rmp after that it feels it dosen t have the kick anymore but as soon as you shift into 3 ed starts pulling hard !

Any ideas ?

Just a normal mechanical is good enough, you just need to check the boost is ok.

Boost pattern should be 10-8-10 on the earlier models, then 12-10-12 for the post 98 models.

If its less than around 6psi on the cross over point (10-8-10) then it has trouble moving the solenoids.

Fish,

Sorry to sound like a spaz but what do you mean by 10-8-10 boost pattern / cross over point ?

boosts to 10 then 8 psi then 10 ?

Hi Shaq

Check out the thread here (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1711). I had what sounds like the same problem, fixed by swapping two solenoid connectors over (took about 15 mins mainly taking off strut brace (6 bolts) and pressure tank (2 bolts). Apparently they get swapped because an old workshop manual showed them incorrectly. Check out the link in the first post in that thread for a great page on boost problems.

Hope that helps.

((hint: if you\'ve a hose that comes off loads, a bit of silicone sealant around the nipple will hold it in place...Nipple on the car, that is...))
