can they take much abuse on fd\'s ? just wondering if they are prone to cracking through hard use.
i know from using my g/f\'s nova as a daily runaround which runs 250 bhp that its usually the gearbox or diff casing that fractures under hard use. the internals are usually fine.
is this a common problem and if so is it avoidable with the use of a diff brace ?
I think because of the bhp thats breaking fds the internals tend to also get spat out, usually at around the 450 500 mark.

A diff brace won\'t help :the problem is the casing is too weak and on high HP cars the crown wheel and pinion literally forces itself apart leading to initially a cracked diff and then the thing exploding
oh ...so theres nothing i can do then. ive ordered a 1.5 way lsd and in talks with a company that will manufacture me carbon fibre prop shaft and drive shafts, and i cant afford to keep replacing diff casings. how annoying  oh well tried to think of every way to make it reliable, just not possible really is it :reallymad
Yep thats exactly what happened to me at RSII , I suspect I damaged it on the Sunday with all the wheel hop I was getting and then the first launch on the Monday the thing just went pop
the case was blown clean apart but the internals were in pretty good nick considering , just a few chips on a couple of teeth
I\'ve been told that a diff brace will help , maybe not by holding the casing together but it should help reduce wheel hop shouldn\'t it , I believe Brian Ellis is the one to ask about standard diffs
ive seen drag launch kits on rx7.com which will help reduce the wheel hop. my car suffers a lot from that, damn annoying too. think im definately going to invest in that kit. if the casing goes im just worried about spending all that money an a lsd and then having it spat out in bits lol
theres a thread about diffs here (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18262&highlight=diff)
a carbon prop will also lessen the shock as it absorbs some of the energy so may help save the diff.
