hi, got questions on turbos:-
what are the pros and cons of the,
t66
.vs.
t78-34d
which one is easyest for everday driving, when will they start to spool, be producing boost etc, which has the best power potential
(on single turbo rx7 fd3)
I have a doc that I can mail you. Whats your e mail addy mate?
Both quite old and laggy compared to the new breed of turbo, all depends what your everyday driving consists of......and how deep your pockets are for the single figure fuel consumtion :evillaugh
Both are capable turbos and correctly tuned will give you C400+atw which will need a tough clutch which in turn makes it a PITA around town ;)
I have the T78 turbo on my car, not too bad at all, power is good, comes in quite quick not as laggy as you might think.
Clutch is a twin plated one thus driving around all day in it is a pain, thus cheap 3rd car needed, at first you put up with it, after a while becomes tiresome :o

Can you describe how the turbo spools up, eg is there anything at 3k rpm ? what rpm is full boost, how wide is powerband etc
thanks.
andrew
Turbo spools after 4200rpm to my setting of 7800rpm
does that mean fuel consumption is better \'off boost\' on a big single as no turbo is working under 4200rpm, its just running as a NA engine before 4200rpm,
compared to the standard twin turbo setup working straight away ?
am i right or way off the mark ?
(i realise when on boost the single turbo will drink heavily !) i do about 5-6000 miles a year for pleasure, and use a van for work......

Yea under the RPM before turbo strikes drives as normal NA, still not slow mind, and once turbo kicks in there is heavy fuel consumption.
I think the TT versions spool at 3000rpm for the first turbo and 4500rpm for the second turbo?? had a TT before this one but cant remember the exact timing for the twins to spool respectively ?
T78 engine bay:
Both are good turbo\'s t66 will spool a little quicker than a t78.
How they spool will be more determined by the type of porting your engine has and the tune as well as how your settings are on the boost controller.
Both will give you great mid and top end power 450 rwhp is easily achievable with both with full boost between 4,000 - 4,500 rpm.
Both are fine for everyday driving fuel consumption will be more determined by the tune. My single turbo deos better mpg off boost than a stock twin turbo. What causes problems for everyday driving is harsh clutches and harsh lsd and bad tuning. Turbos themselves are as smooth as the rotary engine itself.
why use these big laggy turbos when you could use something much smaller for same power with less lag
You could use the t38 or t4

IS the t35 on your website the same as a GT35R ?
I am looking to get a high power rx7, and have only seen big power singles for sale, and each car has one of the turbos in question on it:
one car has T66, one is T78-34D and the other GT35R, i dont want to run more than 1.2bar boost, this shoud make 400RWHP on the t66 & t78 but i dont know much about the GT35R.
how fast they spool, how much power they make are my 2 main concerns, the car is not for work, only pleasure.
I noticed on you web site rotaryextreme the T35 is rated for 400bhp @ 30psi, Is that 400bhp ATF ? and 30psi sounds high ? what will it make at 1.2bar ?
