I\'ve got 3 brackets holding mine into postion, but i made 2 of them and drilled out another. It all depends on how strong the bracets look. I\'d say 6 is more than enough ! Can you physically move it if you get hold of it ?

oh, 1 welded ontop of the intercooler, and 2 on the bottom going to the chassis rails

Thats for the relpy that is cool thank you, I am not fitting it dragons will fit the intercooler, i just do not want to go down there if I do not have enough brackets. but they do not look very big to hold something so heavy, but maybe thats just me.

The two bottom brackets are 2.5mm glav and 50mm wide. The top bracket was an alloy peice welded to the intercooler. Hope this picture helps :

Shaun,

just out of interest where did you bolt the metal tab on the top of the intercooler to?

Can you see the shiney bolt near to the bonnet release. It think there was a hole there already at the front, so i drilled though and bolted it into position. Don\'t take my setup as with the stock intercooler, somebody had lengthened the pipes on the intercooler to lower the whole thing down, yours if stock FMIC will sit higher up in the bulkhead.

Is somebody else fitting it in the car ??

No im in the process of fitting it and manufacturing the brackets and could not for the life of me find a sensible place to bolt that tab on the top of the interooler
Title: Intercooler posistioning
Post by: Eddie on September 29, 2005, 11:44:48 PM
Hi Cjle17

I know what you mean by a sensible place for that bracket on top of the intercooler, I finally posistion mine in the place for the bonnet releace catch  (pic attached) seeme dthe only resonable place, unlike Shaun I have not had my intercooler altered, took a little bit of messing around but it fitted.

I think it sits a little high but it was the only posistion I could get which allows the pipes to clear the re possitioned rad.
I have more pics of my setup if you require, I also had to use my own brackets as mine came without any.

Cheers

Title: Little experience
Post by: Eddie on September 30, 2005, 08:17:38 AM
Hi Col

Well little experience that would  describe me mate, I have never tried anything like this before.
the air con rad and normal rad are now in an almost upright posistion and they dont sit too mear the fmic, plenty of room

The brackets, I was able to re use some of the old brackets which were taken of the cars radiators to reposistion the rads and air con rad.

I will take some pics of the setup and mail them to you.

Cheers

Make sure you don\'t just bury the powersteering line under the intercooler and stop the flow of air to it. It gets extremely hot and you can kill your pump if its run too hot. I bought a power steering cooler and mounted it behind the intercooler, the fluid only gets mildly warm now ! I got it off ebay aus and it works really well!

Hope this helps, plus i\'ve mounted the rad on an angle to allow more air to travel through it ! I didn\'t put the air con back in the car, so removed the rad, piping and the pump !

Shaun thanks for all the help and pictures, I think I am going to chicken out again and just leave it to the experts and take it to Dragons.

No problem mate, if you just have the intercooler and no pipes or brackets then it is a big job. It took me about 2 months to get it running again, but i just had the intercooler and it had been previously messed with. It may be a quicker job to get it installed. Theres alot of bits the kits don\'t really cover anyway !
