Title: Fitting a sandwich plate?
Post by: zymark on September 27, 2005, 05:30:51 PM
Hi,

When fitting a sandwich plate under the oil filter do I have to drain all the oil out? or as the filter is a lot higher than the sump will only the oil that is held in the filter drain out?

Cheers
Gareth

When I did mine, a little residual oil was all that came out- a few sheets of kitchen towel got it all ok.
Be careful when fitting it that you oil up both o-rings as there have been reports of leaks developing from these "sandwich plates".

Obviously keep an eye on it after fitting.

whilst you have the oil filter off, you may as well replace the oil&filter and also get a magnetic oil drain plug.you can buy the filter for a fiver, oil for 15quid and a magnetic drain plug for £8 off ebay. I was shocked to find mine didn`t have a magnetic oil drain plug. A good oil is valvoline turbo v 10w 40 £11.99 at my carshop.

Hi,

I popped up to \'the manor\' this month with a few friends, but got chatting to some 200sx friends i had not seen in a while and when i had finished couldn\'t see any fellow rotor owners near their cars. Will probably pop up in oct work permitting.

Cheers
Gareth

Hi,

i changed the oil and filter only a month ago, I also fitted a magnetic drain plug at the same time. I was prompted by my oil temp gauge not working it turned out the sender (sump mounted) had given up and i could not easily find a replacement, which lead me to put 2 and 2 together and decide that i now needed no better excuse to get permission from the girlfriend to buy some shiney new gauges to replace my shabby antiquated ones. Thanks for the advice though.

Gareth
