Title: 11,000mls per engine?
Post by: Sean on August 19, 2003, 04:17:55 PM
I have recently purchased a mint looking TurboII, or so I thought.
The only reason I went for this particular car was because it had only done 11,000 miles on it\'s new engine that Ro-technics fitted, however I\'ve since found out that an apex seal has gone and Ro-technics don\'t seem bothered that their engines will only do 11,000, what do I do? :reallymad

I suppose what the last owner did or didn\'t do during that 11\'000 miles will be the important thing.

Pip at WGT told me that if I was to remove the engine myself and take the block to him I would save lots of money, is this hard to do? Any tips or advice?:(

you usually get a 10,000 mile OR 24 month (whichever comes first) warranty though?? sounds like 1,000 miles unlucky! :(

Hi Sean,
I am sorry to hear about your engines recent demise.
Are you aware that Rotechnics have a 2 year or 24000 mile (Whichever comes first)warranty on engines that are rebuilt as standard?I know that if an engine fails during this period that as long as it has been properly maintained Rotechnics will stand by their work.
When was the engine rebuilt?
As Mike said, has it been serviced regularly and properly by the previous owner?
Have Rotechnics serviced it?
Have you taken it to them?
I know that it may seem to have failed at a low mileage but maybe the cause is nothing to do with the engine rebuild?
Sometimes the cause can be from something not being serviced or the car being old and something external to the engine failing, like electrics or sensors. You could put in a rebuilt unit and have the same failure.
Hope that this helps.
Kind regards
Carl

Seems a little harsh to buy a car from someone and blame the garage for it going pop, what does the guy you bought it from say. ditto all of Carls questions above. I have dealt with Rotechnics and feel that Simon is approachable if you are both prepared to talk sensible. Provide bills and servicing records and Im sure Simon would listern.

Hi Sean,

First of all l have deleted your post where you were flameing and being nasty to the Rotary because l feel your problem lies first of all with the person who you brought the car from and not initially with Rotechnicks ATM without the full facts first,

As l would be asking the previous owner things like how long ago this 11,000 mile rebuild took place ?

For instance l found with a new Ford that l brought 3 years ago that it only came with a 1 year warranty regardless of mileage !!!! so if your engine was built a long long time ago regardless of mileage no engine builder would be liable for this failure.

Whilst l am very very sorry to hear of ANY Rotary person with problems, running around the forum slating people is sadly not the way to do things.

Lots and lots of people on this forum will gladly give you advice about you car , but l would say that after talking to the previous owner you may find he may even \'help\' you with the WGT bill for a drive in drive out deal with Pip to get you back on the road doing what you should be , Enjoying your Rotary.

All the best Clive

Thanx for all the replies guy\'s. Firstly I wasn\'t slating the rotary, I think that they are great. And it was Pip that was good enough to diagnose the fault for me. The only thing I meant to slate was Ro-Technics for their lack of interest, sympathy and in fact down right rudeness ( although in hind sight, I shouldn\'t be slating them to you guy\'s when they don\'t have the chance to reply). But I do appreciate any help or guidance from anyone on here who could be of help. Pip has already advised that I could save money by removing the engine myself to help save on labour costs, but I don\'t know where to begin!

Thank you again for the replies
