The best thing on it is the alternator, its still shiny :rollin ,the rest of it is a waste of time, unless you want to use it as a donar or you got plenty spares......its got all the classic 323 rust spots and to fix the dents and bangs is DIFFICULT cos of it rounded body nature...my honest opinion......but then again i placed my bid :evillaugh

the fact that its a 1970\'s Mazda is enough to explain the rust (the 323\'s were pretty notorious the world over for rust!)

Ohh tempting and it\'s only up the road from me! The ideal run around I wonder what the insurance would be?? (28 no claims/points etc).

I would reckon that the insurance would be very  little. But Mike would be the best to advise on that as he has one!

Quoted from the Ebay desciption:

"The car is MOTed until Dec and when the brakes are sorted out it would make a very useful  classic run around, qualifying for cheap tax and a classic insurance."

OK, I\'m intriqued now!  Has anyone ever got an old 323 onto classic car insurance?  Who with?  Also last time I tried I couldn\'t find a "specialist" or "car club" to value it!???? :eek

Plus it doesn\'t qualify for cheap tax unless it\'s pre-1973!!! :xconfused

Hi Mike :wave

Thought so! :D  I was just intriqued that someone would actually list their 323 in that way for sale! :eek  It\'s not exactly easy to get a 323 on a classic policy!

To be honest, I\'ve found insurers happy to insure them as a classic car, as most classic insurers have a category for "Working Classics over 15 years old".  Problem is still finding the \'specialist\' to value them.

Mmmmnnn.....I propose you! :rollin :rollin :D :D

I\'m sure Clive would write you a letter ... errr from the Mazda rotary club (with the old school piston hangers on :D )  Maybee we should have a sub chapter for the piston powered old schoolers :)

Mike, you know I really liked your idea of the club having a section for non - rotor Mazda\'s. I mean the name says MazdaRotary, but we just accepted an NSU, so I am sure we could accept oldie Mazda\'s, eh?

I wonder what Clive and Glenn\'s thoughts are?  I mean these oldies have nowhere else to go, except some club that isnt mainly Mazda.

What about at least setting up part of the forum for them / us. Glenn and Clive are keen to build the membership, eh? What about it Glenn and Clive?

Yeah good idea. Any old Mazda, Rotary or not, should be welcome in the old school section of this forum. The more old school Mazdas the better the chance they will convert to a Rotor motor  :cool

Cool, maybe we just need a suggested cut-off, though, say cars over 15 years old or something?

Sounds like a good idea, as long as there is a rule that a rotor will be fitted  :D !!!!!

Or a slap with the big wet fish will follow :D

Yep, it can have a Rotor in the brakes, distrubutor, or have a rotary wiper motor :-)

Oh, come on guys :(

What about us mere mortals who have to suffer with Pi$%*ns??

What about keeping it rear wheel drive only - that works up until 1981 for the 323, 626 Montrose went to around \'83, and the 929 goes to about  \'84/\'85 (in estate guise)IFIRC

Pleeeeeeeaaaaaaase :rollin

Rear drive only would be a convinient cutoff at the moment but what about in future years ? I\'ll try and talk to Clive on Sunday about this (and if anyone feels like mentioning it too, have a word :) )

Well I dont think we even need a cutoff. What exactly will you ask Clive for? Just a seperate part on the forum?  We just have a name and a heading thats conducive to old skool.  Something like "Older Mazdas"  or "Mazdas that wont die" or something. In the description, maybe "Classic Mazda, unusual, and rare".

I reckon it will boost our mebmership somewhat.

Fair coment about a cut off date - I think you\'re heading in the right direction with the general heading idea there Martin :yes

Cheers,
Rich ;)

I personally think the less sections the better. I already find this forum has waaay to many categories without adding more. If I was running the show I\'d merge the 1st gen RX-7 section into the Old school rotaries one aswell and maybe just call the whole shebang "Old School Mazda" :bandit

I reckon that sounds like a pretty cool idea as the 1st gen is getting pretty rare these days. Dunno if the 1st gen guys would be happy with being placed with us old schoolers though. At least we dont stink of moth balls or wee!!!  :chat

aotearotor. I agree about the sections, and I agree with the owner of a new 323 who wrote to Mazda in the magazine, and said "Why isnt there a club for all MAzda owners, not just the sports cars" -  I would have very few sections if things were all my own way. I really do think we should have one Mazda club for all MAzda owners. But if I suggest that I am often told "I am not interested in other Mazdas!"  - just ask on the MX-5 forum if anyone knows what an RX-2 is - in fact most of them dont know what an RX-7 is !

When I browse this forum, I just click on "new posts" , because I am interested in all the sections. But someone who owns a 3rd Gen or RX-8 might not care about whats going on with Mikes 323 or whatever.

But I appreciate not everyone is like me about all Mazda\'s, but I think when a visitor browses our site, its nice to have sections, sort of like a menu, dont you? If someone owning an old Mazda hits our site, whats to entice them to cough up that measly £20 odd now?

This club is open and friendly, and I can never envisage Clive, Glenn or anyone turning away someone who arrived at one of our meets in, say a 616.

Its not just about the £20, I think we want peoples input, experience, and opinions ( even though I often get flamed!), and more so, we want to learn off each other. And we want people to enjoy the club, however they choose to participate, and to enjoy their car.
