Title: Where can i get Drag radials or Road legal slicks.
Post by: antnicuk on September 25, 2005, 08:13:09 PM
After my day at the pod today of fighting clutch slip and wheel spin, I need some rubber for the back end.

I have a set of 17 X 7.5j wheels,  what tyres can i get for them that would be suitable for drag racing?  and where from and how much.   I\'m not fussed about road legal, but if they are it would be handy so i dont have to change them at the pod.

I do the r888...which arent an all out slick..more of a semi slick..give awesoem grip..but are also road legal....

Maybe something to consider..

They look quite low profile,  will they be any good for dragging,  thats what i want them for,

May be better with an all out slick then.... these are good if u want high level of grip..but at the same time be road legal...

I can\'t see the point off road legal drag tyre\'s. why drive to an event do a burn out and half way through think \' will the tyres be legal after this\'. The main point is on road tyres you will never get the 60 foot times down and therefore run a better time. Antnick will agree the cars we saw at pod on the t@t day where running sub 10 and lifting after 60 foot. I know none of our cars are in the legue but sub 10 secs with a teminal of 90mph is something. IT IS THE 60 FOOT time that counts!

Yes, Yes, Yes, I know. :burnout
But rules is rules. When the job is done, then one can play on slicks :3gears-rh  :burnout  :3gears-lh  :D

A drag radial is a drag designed tyre with a radial pattern, some guys here use them on the rd as they are e marked but they are not road legal, they were designed for the usa were its legal.

The idea behind the toyo is that its realy aimed at trackdays..you dirve you car to the trackday..have a tyre giving a very high level of grip..and be able to drive it home..

I was just showing other options

Hi,  it is really drag tyres i want as opposed to track day tyres.   I have heard of some road legal drag tyres before, but i\'m not that fussed about them being road legal, it would just be handy.

There\'s nothing wrong with road legal slicks, in fact without them we wouldn\'t have the most exciting UK Drag Racing series (CCSE).

I have a pair of Mickey Thompson Sportsman Pro\'s in 28 x 10.5 15J ; these are awesome and will vastly improve the hookup off the line theoretically lowering the 60 foot time.

However, you have to remember that more grip places more strain on the axles, bearings, ring and pinion, diff casing, etc.  So by eliminating the "slip" you get on road tyres or track style slicks and switching to wrinkle wall drag tyres you\'re probably going to be looking at a swift end to something else in the drive line.
