Title: 97 ron fuel
Post by: arrouk on September 25, 2005, 02:38:41 PM
although i understand that the higher the ron rating of fuel the better for our cars, mine is a 92 fd, is 97 ron acceptable as sainsburys in york have this for 91.9p/L.

any comment would be helpfull as i have had the car about a week.

thanks
matt

I\'ve used sainsbury\'s super for quite a while, never really had any problems with it. If your running with a pfc the best bet is to get it tuned to it and then at least if you use 98 its a bonus.

I think super unleaded has a shelf life anyway, so you can never garantee what you are getting through the pump.

Most FD owners use Optimax , 98 RON I think.   So 97 is pretty close, should be fine if you are stock.  If you have zorst mods and still on the stock ECU, the higher RON the less chance of knock.

on an unmodifed uk car you may get away with it, on the other hand if you\'ve got an import with a stock ecu and a few light mods you could be tempting fate, jap spec cars are set to run on 100 ron fuel and by only giving it 95 you risk detonation

IMO use a fuel with the highest ron you can get, its not worth saving the few pence and risking the engine especially when one bad detonation can kill a rotary
