Title: Hand brake randomness
Post by: thebandit on September 24, 2005, 04:15:50 PM
Well went to do some work on the car today, started the engine, popped her into gear, lifted on the clutch a lil, felt the bite, pressed the handbrake button in and the ratchets still stuck on! Nice!  ;)  (Ive got one of those drift buttons so its not on a spring, so button stuck on the drive, button in, car going nowhere!

After a bit of a look, looks as tho the bar that goes down to the ratchet has come away (well fell off in my hand) so thats something else to fix this weekend! Anyone else had this problem?

I got mine from driftworks.co.uk there the same as toyota ones so just order a toyota one ;)

Figured out my problem too, the threaded bar that attaches to the ratchet mechanism, so somehow gotta figure out how it fits back together which aint easy with it all being an enclosed design

Ahh well im sure ill sort it after tomorrows hangover is gone!

Basically what they do is remove the spring and button from the hand brake, and you replace it with a button that screws on like this:

Lifting the hand brake and pulling the button out locks it onto ratchet for parking.

Pressing the button in and leaving it in lets the hand brake be used as a fly off hand brake (Ideal for drifty stuff)

check out the shop at //www.driftworks.co.uk

Unsure wether they are on there yet as its my personal friends who run the site/shop/business and i just nicked one when i popped around last week, but they should be in the store sometime this week :)

More or less every drift car in japan has one of these on it. simple and cheap modification, think they sell for about 10 quid-15 quid. Ideal for the hand brake turn bandits  :evillaugh

i have seen the ones that screw into the handbrake, so if you unscrew it it works like a normal handbrake and when you screw it in it hold the ratchet clear so you just pull it as required, if you get my meaning

No screwing involved (kind of like my disapointing night on the town tonight haha!)

anyway, basically its screwed on so it fits like a nomal hand brake button. push it in and it stays in and it acts as a fly off handbrake.

When you come to park and want to use the ratchet system, lift the hand brake as norm, hold it in place and pull the button out until it locks into the ratchet. nice and simple :)

Proper pain in the arse trying to relocate the threaded bar thing into the ratchet system. anyone got a spare handbrake knocking about?
