Seen a few posts lately which show a few people on here aren\'t exactly keen on the idea of water injection.
Thought I would start a thread to talk about some of the bad points and reasons why people dont like it, not to start an argument just basically to get other peoples opinions and a few more facts.
Im new to it having fitted a kit a couple of months back and im very pleased with it...cant really see any bad points about it hence the thread :)
Also heard it called a tuning excuse, didnt fully understand that one...
Anyways i\'ll leave it there, be as blunt as you like, but try to keep the handbags from swinging :D
As i modified the car more and more and running higher boost setting, it was recommended by everyone who was running higher or similar power then mine to get water injection asap as it will help the engine and will minimise the detonation.
I have my water injection set to come on at round .65 boost and can not feel any power increase but do notice the air temps drop on the PFC so there is nice and cold air going in the engine, which infact is very good for the life of the engine and helps me running the car that bit harder and may be faster with extra boost setting.
The bad point on my car is that im using the washer bottle and always keep worring about water running out on long runs and i think thats exactly what happend on the way back from RSII. Yes, my engine did pop while on M40, overtaking some 8 bikes at top end and got all this on a video and will post here soon.....lol but great viewing though.
The engine is all rebuild now by J Dee who has done great job on the porting and the car is now ready again to be mapped.
Laeeq.--- Just a tip mate. Take out the Jap speck rear washer bottle and fit a UK speck one ( It holds about 4 lts ) Thats what Geff at RE:WORX told me to do and it\'s never run dry when out on long runs ( 200 miles plus ) and I do use boost. HTH. Also your point about a tuning aid well W.I. is a safty factor but it also permits you to run higher boost so it does both. ;)
Another tip is to use rain water from a water butt as it will not block up your jet with deposits of crap. If you want to run con/screen wash ( meth ) then only mix it outside the bottle as a 25% meth mix and keep topping up with your pre-mixed fluid. :burnout
Running out of water is the only real bad point, especially if you have the car set up and dynoed with the WI installed, then if you are ragging the arse off it and you run out of water you could be in trouble.
Like Warthog said, get a bigger water bottle, or if you cant find a UK spec one go to a scrap yard and have a poke about in Volvos,Mercs any big car and find a nice large one with a low level warning float in it, instant peace of mind, especially if you fit it with a warning buzzer.
I took the easy option when i ordered my aquamist kit i just got them to send me a low level sensor.
HTH
