Title: Vented Bonnet Water Inquiry
Post by: gsb876 on September 23, 2005, 09:37:35 PM
Just received a new Carbon Bonnet, however no water drip trays,

So the question is, is it a bad idea to put it on  without the drip trays or is the engine ok if water leaks through ??? As i dont want to put the bonnet on if the water will wreck stuff in the engine ?

Obviously i know if the car is in motion the water will be vapourised  but what happens when stood still and it rains ??

Gurj :)

Think you will find a lot of the vented bonnets on here dont have the drip trays, if you park your car mostly outside without a cover I would have thought that would be a bad thing mainly because of corrosion [sp?] and water in the electrics, as you say should not be an issue when on the move.
The other thing is if you like a bling engine bay your gonna need a lot of cleaning equipement :yes

best bet if your worried is to find someone with a sheet metal bender and get some made up out of alloy sheet, then you can polish them so you get a nice BLING effect when you open the bonnet

Cheers John,

will have to look for someone to either make me one or not put the bonnet on just yet, will have a word with a few garages around here to see what we can come up with ? ;)

I got a drip tray with my bonnet......i took it off straight away, because whats the point in having a vented bonnet with the vents blocked off!

Ive never had any problems gurj.

Also i dont think it would now with all my greddy hardpiping etc.

Dan!!

I had a vented bonnet on my old car and i had no problems , you will need allot of rain to get a steady flow of water, if you mesh the vent then you will find that any water that rolls down the vent the mesh turns it into like a hone combe effet as the water just attaches itself to the mesh if you understand me :wiggle

If it\'s the same as Nath I shouldn\'t think you\'d have any problems, it\'d be more the electrics to worry about but should be fine ?!

Is it a carbon fibre finish but made with Frp.  What is the actual weight??

Same as standard or lighter?

Sorry for all these questions, I am fairly interested.

Not fitted as the bonnet catch would not fit, doesn\'t reach the required depth ?
Might try again this wekend, but bonnet wont be staying on as winter is upon us, will fit it then remove it till summer.

I have that vented bonnet.

I use a cover if it is gonna be outside in obvious rain.

I put gaffa tape over the vents when I have it washed.

One of the venys is directly over the turbo filters.
