Title: New Keys
Post by: James S on September 21, 2005, 05:21:45 PM
I’ve only got one key for my FD so I’m thinking abut getting another one cut as a spare just in case i do something stupid,    I take it I will need some sort of key number to take to Mazda to get this done.

Does anybody know where I can find this number?  :cheers

Any key cutters will be able to make a copy of your key. Unless you have an immobilisor fob in your key - but if its an FD i wouldn\'t have thought so!

There\'s no immobiliser on the key.  :)  That’s handy!!

So if i just buy one of those Mazda Efini key blanks that RE:Worx\'s sell then take it to any key cutters i shouldn\'t have a problem  :cool

I can\'t think of any reason there would be any problem.

I had some copies of mine made as you could see both were cracking, for such a nice car the FD really has the most shocking keys I\'ve ever had the misfortune to use.

Even my A reg Golf MK2 had better keys!

I only had one key with my FD, it broke  :reallymad  I managed to get a copy and get it cut which was good news.

Get them done before they break.

Someone on another form managed to get us some Efini key blanks, then just get a copy made onto it.

my local key cutters has blanks, cost of key and cutting about £5. Try your local place, unless you really want to pay the extra for the efini bit...

I got a mazda blank from reworx and my mum took it to be cut \'cos i was busy, the guy said he would use his own blank as he couldnt guarantee the key on someone elses blank.
Well the key he supplied didnt work, it was close, opened the driver door but nothing else, so i went back and got the mazda blank done, that works a treat!

i phoned Mazda today just out of curiosity to see how much they would want to cut me a new key, they took the make and the year of the car then asked me if i had the key number, i said i wasnt sure i might have it but would have to look for it. So they then said if you have the key number it will cost you about £60 however if you dont have it they would have to take the car into the garage and open up the lock barrel to get a key number from it.   i didn\'t ask how much that would have cost.  :spank

I think i will just order the key blank from re:worx, its only £15 then get one cut for £5.   :cheers

I got mine done at my local Timpson\'s (?), the sort of key / shoe place in most shopping centres. The first key he cut worked on the doors but not the ignition despite lots of fettling. In the end he ordered a blank in specially, took 3 or 4 days, cost about £6 in total and it works! :)
