Title: Servicing a REX
Post by: DVDA on September 19, 2005, 10:23:23 PM
I am currently very interesting in buying an import Gen3 Twin turbo RX7 as they are not something you see everyday and have the performance to match the looks. I live in the Midlands and I am looking for places where I could get servicing done locally.

A colleague at work suggested I use my local Mazda dealer but i am unsure about Mazda\'s policy on imports ( Can somebody clear this up? ).

I would also consider mazda specialists in the Midlands (if they exist).

Does the club have any recommendations in the area?

As for servicing rex near midland, WGT has quite a good reputation.

I would have suggested them too.

I took mine to a Mazda dealer very near to me - have to say I shall never make that mistake again - they can be good, they can be bad I say specialist all the way :)

Good luck with the Rex shopping!

I dont wish to put you off, and i hope you do buy one, but please look into all the costs before you take the plunge, insurance, servicing, fuel, mods etc etc. They are fantastic cars, and i wouldnt swap/sell mine for the world but they are costly, a few people have bought them only to want to sell them a few months later as they cannoty afford them.

Please dont let this put you off, i just wanted you to know what you could be in for if you do buy. Believe me, when you have the foot planted to the floor in 3rd gear, you generally dont care how much it cost as you are havin way too much fun!!  :cool

Pip at WGT will look after you, the man knows his stuff!

Good Luck

As a few have said WGT is your place,

I use them for all my work and the service and knowledge is second to none, possibly the best place to take your rotary  :D

I\'m in Derby and roughly 1hr 10mins to get to Northwich from here

Most of the servicing you\'ll need to do is really simple, even for me!

Oil & filter - a doddle
Plugs - a pain but easy enough
Break pads and disks - simple, can be a bit tricky to get undone the 1st time if it\'s not been undone recently.
Break fluid - same as any car, careful with the nipples.
Gearbox fluid - not done it but seems easy enough.

There\'s not a lot else to do, only oil, filter and plugs need doing regularly.  It\'s for upgrades (other than the simple) and troubleshooting that I\'d reccomend using a specialist as it\'ll save tiem and £s in the long run.

Could not agree more, been servicing mine myself for 3 years now, very satisfying and I am certain it has been done right.

Cheers,

yep..gotta agree that servicing your own pride+joy is unbeatable. When you first open the bonnet of an fd you think..erm..il leave it to a specialist, but if you just start taking things off the engine, it is just as simple as any other cars really. the specialists are reputable BUT you pay the price unfortunatley. The only time i would take mine to a specialist would be for turbo or engine diagnostics. why not just learn how to change spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, oil, water, belts ect yourself?? you will know its done right as long as you take your time and of course do it in the right manner. Do it yourself if its just a service, you will appreciate it a lot lot more and of course save money now and in the future!

Thanks guys I will keep WGT in mind as they are not that far away. By the sounds of it they are fairly easy to work on so I may do somethings myself. I am currently very fortunate that I dont have to rely upon my car as a daily driver as I can easily walk to work. This is part of the reason why im going to treat myself to a rex for my birthday this year. The other part is that I want to wipe the smiles off my mates and their supras.  :spank

One more thing - Robbie I am also from Dudley !!!! Just too much of a coward to admit it. :D

you will certainly wipe the smiles off there faces. Thats if you go past them slowly enough for them to see who it was.

Wouldnt suprise me as they do have a better power to weight ratio and the fact it handles.
