Im posting this on behalf of some one, he told me when he turns his heaters on, hot or cold there is a bad smell coming out, this is not using the air con as well.
Before taking it to a garage is there any suggestions first? thanks J
Check for dead animals or small children. :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin
When i got my a/c regased i asked the guy about a funny smell i got after not using it during the winter. He told me bacteria builds up from the a/c in the heater/blower filter and this is the smell. He squirted the heater vents with anti bacteria spray and ive not had the smell since.

Cheers scoomer ill pass that on!.
If its a strange smell like moldy socks and he gets a greasy film over the windows it could be the heater matrix. If it is that 1st step is to try radweld or similar. Just add a bottle to your coolant.

There is an anit-bac spray you can get to DIY away the smell. Pop it in the car with the A/C on recirc and the can will release all the spray and smell is gone - presto!
It wont be this but I had a foul smell and traced it back to rotten water in the washer fluid tank - guess milton will sort that out (wash it thru and rince before it goes on the paint tho  )
The spray you want is called frionet clim you can get it from one of the air con places like climate centre, hrp or dean & wood just have a look in the yellow pages or the net for your local one.
What you need to do then is start the car, run the a/c on high fan, lift the bonnet and spray into the air intake just underneath the windscreen making sure the fan is not on recirc and that should solve the stink.Spray should cost about £10.

Oo eck, don\'t do that... Radweld blocks small leaks well but sometimes coolant channels in blocks and rotors and so on can look like small leaks...!
Problem sorted! just needed that bacteria spray!
