Title: Engine Rebuilt and Back on the Road! FINALLY!
Post by: eyedee on September 14, 2005, 05:16:18 PM
Hi guys,

I\'ve not been around for what seems like ages, must be 2 or 3 months, due to moving and other commitments.  You may remember my car went for an engine rebuild in February at Hayward Rotary?  We\'ll there were a few issues I wanted to have sorted around the same time and a few new touches I wanted to give the car, so it\'s only just got back on the road properly!  Carl and his team have done a fantastic job at every stage of the work, and I can honestly say that Carl is the most helpful, honest, hard working individual I have ever taken any of my vehicles to.  If you want an honest man working on your rotary powered vehicle, he is the man to visit!  Like I said, there were a few issues to sort out, and Carl wouldnt rest until they were sorted, so almost the whole engine bay was emptied, parts checked, parts changed... it\'s had a new cat, some pipes, fuel pump, ignition coils, leads, spark plugs, fuel filter, solenoids, turbo\'s checked for boost and the engine compression tested until the result was just right.  8 bar all round!  The electrical problems are sorted.  Basically, it\'s perfect and it feels like Ive just gone and bought a new Rex!!!  New sound systems also installed and I\'m loving it!  Absolutley excellent!

Cheers guys.   :cheers   It is a nice feeling driving the car without worrying if you\'ll make it home!  I took her for a spin last night, 15 or so miles through medium to light traffic, and the confidence inspired via the immediate reactions of the Rex and the tight reactions of the throttle and brakes really speeds up your journey!   :eek   Ive already lost my license once!  Amazing though, the grip coupled with the sheer control of speed and braking using the clutch, go pedal and brakes had me taking sharp corners (with full view!) at 30mph - and when I say sharp, I mean turning into a side street kinda sharp!  Had great fun with a guy in a modded Golf GTi who had something to prove - No idea what mind?

Well done, its a great feeling when you get it back from a rebuild it gets mapped and then you put the foot down for the first time in months, makes you remember why you were willing to empty the piggy bank in the first place!  :)

Hi Martiny, its a FD white Castrol decal covered Twin Turbo.  I\'m always seeing a yellow third gen Rex around Kingston.  Never see any others though!?!

Donato - You\'re SO right!!!   :burnout
