Title: FD running on rich side....
Post by: jasonlel on September 10, 2005, 06:06:25 PM
Hi gurus,

I\'m curruntly using a stock FD ECU. Did CO check and found out my FD is running on very rich side on idle. Any idea why?  :xconfused

*FYI my FD ECU printed a big code "N3A7", dont see any Mazda wording, but I did see a "Denso" wording.

Hmmmm yea... but mind is kinda above normal rich as in high side...

This morning I did a reset ECU. Hmmmm I dont know if there\'s any diff. but I can still smell abit of the feul smell. By the way my exhaust temp shows about 400d - 600d for city drive....

What you guys think?

rx7veilside,
Hmmmm apexi? You recommend SAFC?

Cheers,

Mine is exactly the same, strong smell of fuel running really rich, i have knightsports ECU, have been told to put in Apexi PFC and get it mapped to sort out the problem, but I am happier the car runns rich than lean!

Hmmmm looks like I do not need to worry so much then.... Maybe I will get a SAFC or something like that...

these cars do not need to run rich when properly mapped..all jap cars run rich compared to uk cars which are tuned for emmissions..my fd on a run 60-80mph off boost approx 22mpg and cld prob achieve better as most of the mapping has been for on boost..the us forums are veering towards running afr of between 14-16/1 afr

Hmmmmmm ok.. I\'m just making assumption, could I have a malfunction O2 sensor or something wrong with my TPS? Just as wild guess.... What say you guys?

Infact how do I know if my O2 sensor has gone bad?

I know I can retune is by using atleast a piggyback, but first I would like to know the root cause of this problem.......

If the O2 sensor has malfunctioned I would expect to see the ECU post an error code and go into limp home mode.

Still it doesnt mean its running rich at the top end!

Mine stinks, pops and bangs and sometimes get massive flames :flamed

But at the top end of the revs I run lean.

can i suggest that if youve got any non standard mods( catback/intake), then your air will be floowing more freely than your STANDARD ECU was set for, as a result it will compensate to avoid detonation by ploughing shed loads of fuel in there.

the best way to solve this is with a apexi power fc, and have it tuned.

my 2p\'s worth

(the above is from my rex doing exactly the same)

Hi Brett,

Hmmm good idea, but I my FD is one of those model without the check engine light and I cant check error code....  :reallymad
