Title: Running on LPG????
Post by: PIPFC on September 08, 2005, 01:27:45 PM
HI, I was wondering if anyone is running on LPG or knows somebody running a rotary on LPG. The reason i\'m asking is that i use my rex as a daily drive and can\'t afford to keep paying afortune for petrol. I\'ve heard it can be done but I\'ll lose power. Has anyone heard different? Also can i tune the car as if it was running on petrol?

sorry for the list of questions but it i just want to know everything before i take the plunge

thanks in advance
phil

There was for sale just a few months ago, as far as I know there is just the one.
Speak to Dave at Rotechniks, say Gary Marks said Hi, Dave is the guy that owns and does LPG conversions. 01189 888555

The chap running the FC was getting pretty good results too. generally more economical, cheaper fuel too (only guaranteed lower till 2008 i think)

From what I remember it does give you less power but this can be gained back.  Was also said that it runs cooler and gas actually has a higher equivilant (sp?) RON rating.

With the only emissions being water then de-catting to gain back more power than you lost is a very serious option (unless there is some testing rule I don\'t know of.)  With the cleaner fuel/burn then carbon deposits are also eliminated!

I want to do this to mine but with no stations closer than 25miles away just puts too much mileage on the car  :reallymad

I\'ve run two Jeeps on LPG can\'t fault it on a piston engine, no idea of how it would work on a rotary. Even on a Jeep the amount of extra plumbing is staggering so how you would get it to fit under an FD hood I don\'t know.

Then there\'s the tank, the normal options being 57ltr underslung [no loss of boot space] Torpedo, under side sills. Tank in the boot or one the shape of a spre wheel, although I don\'t think this would be dig enough.

And as for power loss, didn\'t notice it on a 4ltr engine.

I\'d be very interested to see what they say about running on LPG, that would mean I could use her as a daily runner and not have to run two cars just for me!
