took the car to rotechniks today with a high and hunting idle... see my thread in this section...
guy took one look at it got his little torch and extended mirror out and dissapeared under the bonnet...
yep... blown inlet manifold gasket
expensive... yes well the labour is the parts are only 170 quid max... 10 hours labour on the other hand...
why dont mazda put metal ones in in the first place?... to save a few pence on cost?.. what cost over reliability!!!
Yep, a real pain when these go!
You can do it yourself, its a long job, but reasonably straight forward, just depends on how much time you want the car off the road! Being pig-headed, I refused to be charged £65 (!! ) per hour labour charge (then plus vat, of course!) and the parts - you work it out! Was looking at the best part of a grand! (This was at a local garage, by the way, not one of the rotary specialists). So I did it myself!
I also replaced a few gaskets along the way, as well as most of the vacuum hoses I could get to. The parts bill was actually nearer the £340 mark!
Hope you get it sorted as soon as you can. :yes
left the car with rotechniks... pick it up at the weekend... was thinking of doing it myself but when they said you have to remove the turbos and then move the sterring coloumn shaft and stuff I th9ought... hmmmmm maybe not
wish I ahd now... but need the car on the road asap as I ahve to be ready to attend interveiw... lose my job at the end of the month so need the mobility!!!
