Title: At Last, I found my water leak
Post by: Martiny on September 04, 2005, 10:56:19 AM
After much concern, I have found my water leak on the FD.

One day I noticed some steam coming from under the hood. I could not see the leak. I could not see where the water was coming from, because it was evaporating, but it was around the turbo area.

I removed the covers around the turbos, and I found an oil leak which I fixed, bit could not see any sign of the water leak.

So I replaced the two hoses that feed water to the turbos, as I have seen some other people have had these fail. But I was till losing water.

So I started to top up the system, ready to pressurise it, so I could have a better look. By now it was, luckily just running out from somewhere, so no need to pump it up at all. At first it looked like it was coming from the intake manifold gasket, which kind of surprised me, because that\'s fairly new. But then I had a good look from the top and I could see water sitting on top of the rear Rotor housing, under the Upper intake manifold. So I removed UIM, and I found a pipe that goes from the Throttle body to the top of the Rotor Housing has split.   Will get a new one from Mazda.

Thank goodness it was an external leak, eh !!!

Yes I am doing it myself, and yes it required some patience to get the old one off!!. I am just HUGELY relieved that it was an external leak.

Now, I would like to ask Carl what is the best coolant to use to prevent corrosion?

Royal Purple make a product called Purple Ice, it can be added to anti freeze with no problems. It helps the car run cooler by filling the rough pits in the wall of the water channel making it run smoother and more efficiently, it also has anti corrosives in it.

Thanks Carl and Gary. Do I mix with distilled water, and what ratio, or shall I just follow the FSM?
