I\'ve currently got a 1993 Type R FD3S. The only engine mods are an HKS twin induction kit & a HKS BOV.
I had a rebuild completed back in December by RX Motors, and it\'s done about 1300 miles since the rebuild.
I\'m getting WGT to fit an APEXi Power FC ecu when they have them in stock, and am also having an aluminium AST fitted to replace the standard one.
I was also thinking about getting an aluminium radiator to replace the stock one at the same time as the ecu & ast. Which has got me thinking about the possibility of replacing the stock Intercooler as well.
From what I have gathered from various threads on the mrc and from the internet, I have the following 3 options;
1) An aluminium replacement for the stock intercooler (WGT do one).
2) Or a front mounted intercooler.
3) Or a V-mount intercooler/radiator.
What, in your opinions, are the main pro’s and con’s of the 3 intercooler options?
I imagine that fitting a FMIC will require the radiator to be fitted vertically rather than at the 45 degree\'s that it\'s fitted as standard, and would the fitting of the FMIC restrict air flow to the radiator?
Cheers,
JP
personally replacing the IC for an alloy std mount 1 isnt worth it unless your working to a budget. If you plan on modding alot in the future even if its 2 years down the line go for a V mount or a FMIC....
A FMIC will restrict the air the rad gets but thats why "aparently" from what Ive found out the FMICs for these cars are so expensive because theyre designed to let the air flow through better for the rad although the rad does need to be repositioned. seems alot of work.
My advice. go for WI. cheaper and more effective. :)
Sorry to be a complete novice but what do you mean by WI?
I would agree with the above reply if you do not intend doing any radical mods [there is a purple gen 1 on here running sub 11\'s with no IC and WI wtf!] The biggest down side of the FMIC is increased water temps, it allways struck me as a touch of \'make do and mend\' type of thing [had a FMIC once and suffered over heat probs] uprated SMIC seem to be not much better than stock, \'V\' mount not seen any figures as such [those that have them have been a bit shy on reporting back :( ] Another option is a charge cooler which will mean you leave the rad in the stock position allowing the rad to do what it was meant to do :D and is just about as efficient as a FMIC add the WI and you have just about sorted everything :guinness
WI = Water Injection :) seen some impressive results from feedback on here. do a search, theres a thread here somewhere that gives some good figures :)
