I have had a man contact me to say that he put his stock RX-8 on a Rolling road and was unable to stop the traction control operating even when the T/C was turned off this lead to the engine not being able to rev up much more that 1000 revs !!
The only explanation I can think of is because the front wheels are not turning and the ECU is not receiving a signal from the front ABS sensors it is virtually shutting the engine down, or his T/C wont turn off.
What contradicts this is at Rotorstock I am sure we had at least two RX-8 on the mobile R/R in attendance, any views anyone ???.
you have to hold traction control button in till it allows you to rev.
Geff
There were 3 RX8\'s on the RR at Rotorstock, my own... and 2 others... 1 Completely standard, 1 with Catback exhaust and 1 with Catback and Intake...
None of them had any problems reving,... is it possible that the RS Dyno dyno had the rollers linked together so that it appeared to be a solid "road" and the one being tested here was 2 separate units which could turn at different speeds?
Was this person 100% sure that they had fully turned off the traction control by holding the button in until the warning light is permanently displayed on the dash?
Already said here really but...
1/ TCS is not off until you have held in the button for 8 seconds, and the skid warning in the centre top of rev counter is steady on. This definitely turns it OFF off - you can perform burnouts in this state
2/ If front and back wheels are going at utterly different speeds for extended periods it doesn\'t seem to like it - whether that\'s ABD or what or just the PCM deciding the sensors have had it, I dunno - so I agree with the Adept\'s theory
3/ Reading discussion on rx8club.com it seems to vary by PCM version / level...
4/ Perhaps he has some problem that abuse on a dyno has triggered, otherwise un-noticed, which has put it in safety mode?
statement 1 is very brave from a man who is selling his car :rollin
I\'ve given up on the idea of anybody here buying it anyway for that very reason!
