Hello all i seem to have developed a problem with the cooling system.... for the last couple of weeks when ever i have used the rx i always check the oil and coolant the next time i use it and i always have to top up the coolant ....... I fill it up from the center of the engine next to the AST tank.... whenever i check it , It is always a couple of inches down........ The coolant buzzer has never gone off and the temp gauge always sits at about half way .
Today when i was sitting in a traffic jam in this muggy weather the temp gauge to raise to about three quarters on the dial until the fans kicked in and sent it back down to half way.... When i got home and did my 4 minute cool down i could hear a noise from the engine bay which sounded like the water was bubbling or being pushed into the AST tank..............
The questions i am asking our....
1, is there a way to check that the system is ok some kind of test?
2, is it safe to drive
3, What could the problem be or is it me being paranoid
4, do i need to replace the caps on the filler neck and the AST tank?
many thanks jamie
Try a new AST cap first since a weak one will allow coolant to enter the expansion tank too soon in this weather.
See my current thread - Big Time Coolant Loss.

cheers mate and i have just read your thread some good info on there :D One last question , I was told never to take the ast cap off as it will cause all kind of probs.... so what is the procedure to taking these caps off?
many thanks jamie
any help please :xconfused
If you check the coolant at the tank on the left as you look down from the front, it should be by the full mark, look in the cap on top by the alternator it should be just below the "step". ... tip.. get after market AST.. if its kicking out white smoke and sounds like a lwan mower on start up from cold or after being left over half an hour then it could be your water seals (re-build time).. or check fans and temps to see if your themostat or water pump has gone.
