Title: Insuarnce Problem
Post by: rotis23 on August 25, 2005, 10:25:46 AM
Hi All,

I insured my RX7 (when I got it last Dec) with Houghton with a 5000 mile limit that I already reached :/

My daily driver (205 1.9 GTi) has all my no claims and it seems I can\'t extend the 5000 limit.

I really need to drive it this weekend. Any suggestions? Are there insurers that will do insurance over multiple cars? How do people normally insure their second car?

Thanks for any advice on this.

how would they know you\'d exceeded your limit ?

I\'m pretty certain they would extend the mileage for a fee, after all you are being honest with them and letting them know.

Usually they\'ll up it for free and charge you an administration charge of say £10... simple. although they wont know and neither will the police if you get a producer etc. only way of them finding out is if you have an accident. in which case they\'ll checkt he MOT certificate and find out quite easily how many miles its covered in the last year :)

Should be fine though...

Unless you had to replace the speedo at some point during the year - like me! ;)

If its a \'classic policy\' they will not \'top up\' the mileage allownce.

Well at least AON won\'t and I\'m speaking from experience.

Thanks Chaps.

Problem is that it\'s a classic car policy (Chaucer) thats limited to 5000.

I\'ll be shagged if I have an accident and it\'s over the 5000 :/ Saying that the MOT cert was a few months ago whilst it was way inside the limit.

I\'ve asked if I can get it extended and they\'re calling me back.

johnf is right; they won\'t increase the limit.

I\'m in luck!!! I\'ve been using 1.6 as my miles to kilometer converter where it\'s actually 1.6093. The difference gives me an extra 700 miles!!!

some companies will give temporary vehicle cover on another car admiral for example will insure me up to four times a year on another at a standard rate depending on group for upto a month at a time.  last time i did this it cost me £70 to insure the FD for 1 month but it was better than leaving it outside unisured.
