Title: Heater matrix?
Post by: Grizzly on August 24, 2005, 02:14:18 AM
I don\'t belive it!!!!

I have had a problem with my car loosing water realy slowly. I would loose say a Cup full in a Month.

This has happened since i bought the thing two years ago, can you belive i drove it into the Workshop today to have a mess with the doors and left it running for a few minutes, when i turned it off i sat on the floor by the drivers and heard a low hissing noise. So i stuck my head under the dash and with the ignition etc off came to the conclusion its was coming from the center of the dash (BUGGER!!!!)

So the moral of the story is don\'t buy a car that the water seal had gone on when the old owner tells you he thinks it has Hydrolic Tappets becouse the valves have always ben very quiet.:(

Nice little job, has anyone done one? can it be done without takeing the dash out?

Sounds like a nasty job.. never replaced a matrix on a seven before but a few other cars and they have all been a bitch :(

Good luck anyhow, at least you know what the problem is now  :)

It depends where exactly its gone. Either way you will need to get the center section out and remove the glove box and sub plate under it to give your self better access to the matrix.  (sadly no one can be told what the matrix is...)
To get the dash out is a total bitch, if you can struggle and do it with the dash in then leave it in.  I can remove, rebuild/port and reinstall the engine in the time it takes to get the dash out without damaging anything.
Remove the front seats first as this will free up a lot of space to work in.

you will need a bucket as well, you can change it but its one of those jobs which just takes ages, so if you want to save a **** load of cash i reckon you should look into doing it yourself, the old factory manual should help you here mate

Are you 100% sure it\'s not the Tappets?  :D

I\'m not 100% sure its the Matrix now :(

I drove it to work and stuck my head under the dash No Noise? Sufice to say not happy.

I don\'t mind doing the Job if i know it defo the Problem but if its not i\'ll kick myself (and it will hurt!!!)

I\'m thinking alon the lines of conecting the heater matrix in and out together so it bypasses it. In theory this should tell me if it is or isn\'t the problem ;)
