Title: dream land?
Post by: LDA on August 22, 2005, 12:59:42 AM
hey all,

just found this on the sxoc

Quotei have recently raced 3 Mazda RX7 Twin Turbo\'s

and i beat all three ( i thought one had an exhaust and an apexi)
so i want to know what power you think I have

Please not they were all racing 2 definetely the other not as sure cause it was slow

this was from a stage 1 s13 owner. his mods would give him about 230hp and he gives no more details than that as to how he \'raced\' the fd\'s.

i dont think for one second that he properly raced any spec fd and won. what do you lot think?
could your car (or any other fd) take a 230hp s13 to school?
or could an s13 whip an fd?

discuss

Did the FD owners know they were in a race?

If that\'s 213 ponies at the flywheel then no chance in a race, if it\'s at the wheels then it\'s about the same as a stockish FD.

Not that many of us running standard power though - mine\'s mildly modded and around 293rwhp (~350fly) and I\'d expect to walk all over a S13 in most circumstances.

Could be that the FDs were running in rebuilds though :)

Annoying when people say this, hes obviously trying to compare the cars but how can you do that with a road race? So many other factors like what speeds/gears both people are in when the \'race\' starts, who else is on the road, etc, not to mention obvious stuff like safety and speed cameras (sensible hat on). Lets drag him to the drag strip and whoop his ass :D

think the rest of the sx owners are bit more switched on and live in the real word

james01uk is a friend of mine and what he says is true.

The 200sx gearing is shorter then the RX-7. He a friend of mine and I have 300 at wheels but he keeps with me until he changes gear then I still have 2000rpm more. Im faster than him but his car is still quick. He is quicker than stock RX-7\'s form a 3rd gear roll on at about 60mph Im affraid to say. Also hes beaten one off the lights and he started behind it.

I was driving back from Reading with him when he raced a couple of you that were at the meet and he beat you both and this was with his heavy 18" wheels on which has made him alot slower than he was.

... and yes the fd\'s were racing I WAS THERE!

Im sorry i just cant believe that.  Unless his car is unbelievably quick
Title: dream land?
Post by: Christopher on August 22, 2005, 01:26:28 PM
His car is:

lighter than a stock fd
more power than a stock fd
closer gear ratio than a stock fd

He got a 13.9 1/4 mile time. I dont think stock fd\'s get out of the 14\'s

I couldn\'t beleive how quick his car is as we have been modding it ourselves (mostly him doing the work though  :rollin Im more of a \'what you need to do next\' guy lol). Im not sure what bhp there are stock but its prety quick now. Its slower since he put the 18\'s on but there for drifting which is what he built the car for.

EDIT: I like the way this thread hasn\'t turned into an argument like the SXOC one did. I think alot of them think that stock fd\'s are 280bhp which is why they find it so hard to beleive.

i do believe that his 200sx s13 has about 230hp at the fly and did go past 3 rx7\'s. weather they were racing is a totally different matter. never is a stage 1 s13 going to beat even a low spec stock fd if the fd is trying.

i dont think the bloke is a lier, but i do think he is deluded.

Its not stage 1

It has one of those stage 1 chip\'s yes but those chips are rubbish. He has a rebuilt engine and turbo. The turbo now has a 360 degree thrust bearing so its not a completley normal T25 but its not going to do much. He has full exhaust from turbo back, large front mount, uprated fuel pump, and running over 1 bar. His boost controler only goes up to 1 bar but we think its running more  :rollin

I’m here to represent my mate from the sxoc (glens14a)
You and your mate are both in fairy land, as it was pointed out on the sxoc that this “200+bhp S13” not only wipes the floor  with 3 completely different and completely standard (bar back box’s) RX7’s but it can also beat skyline GTS-T and scoobs, and from this wealth of information they are then supposed to be able to calculate his power out-put.
And glens14a has asked me to say something constructive to you
GROW UP and stop racing on the open road and then lying  to make yourself feel more important.

Most stock FDs are the 255fwhp versions, some the slightly later 265fwhp ones.  It\'s only the much later \'sporty\' models that had 280fwhp.  If there\'s much weight difference plus gearing then it would indeed be a lcose thing with the S13 (moderatley modded) having an edge over stock 255hp FDs.

Nothing wrong with being slower in stock form and I know which is better looking ;)

Cheers for bringing insults to this thread from other people!! Might aswel lock the thread if thats whats going to happen because its only going to lead to arguments. The starter of this thread wanted a discusion not insults. Although (maybe) this thread was only started to cause problems!!! but I beleieve this is a lagitimate question.

James has posted this about the scooby and the skyline on that forum. Not sure what this has to do with this thread though?

Out of interest what does a stock scooby wrx and skyline R33GTS do 1/4 mile?

Completley agree. RX-7 looks sooo much nicer lol

An RX-7 with the same/ equivilent mods would beat this 200sx for sure. Not many FD\'s run over 1bar on stock twins though :P

I have a friend with an s14, exhaust, filters so not much over stock,
i have about 250-275rwhp (will find out exactly at re-worx tomorrow) and i can leave him with a nice view of my rear bumper any time I like. :)
I can\'t see any mildly modded 200 coming close to a Rex IMHO.

Also my experience of RX owners is that they are mostly (Scooby Si excluded:)) a sensible bunch, and probably wouldn\'t floor it in a race on a public road, especially if there was other traffic about.

:)  From the sounds of it though this S13A is not exactly \'lightly modded\' its running a stage 1 chip yes but it does have a large turbo and a good 14psi behind it....

Out of interest what are the standard times for an S13a? (0-60, 0-100 etc)
Title: dream land?
Post by: fro on August 22, 2005, 04:24:02 PM
The standard times aren\'t anything to write home about but I wouldn\'t be surprised if a mildly modded S13 could keep up with a standard FD. As previously mentioned, the gearing is shorter and they\'re pretty light as standard (and even lighter one the tailgates have rusted away ;) )
Good track day cars with a little fettling, and cheap too! :D

Equivalent mods on an FD would see it putting down something in the region of 340+ rwhp - i.e. close to 400 fly wheel. I think it\'d be a different story like for like.  Best place to prove it though is on the track or up the strip.

Is there anybody with a stock RX-7 that has got a better time than 13.9 at the pod? or if you have a time near about that what engine mods, tyres have you got and what where the wether conditions.

Ive been looking at the 1/4 mile table on mrc and alot of the RX-7\'s get 14\'s. I got a 13.4@108 but that was on a wet day and had about 280@wheels.

The 200sx got the 13.9@100mph about a month ago when it was really hot. It was the day the Retro car show was held there (really good show).

We should meet up at the pod and some stock fd\'s should race him down the strip... If the FD wins we all get to beat him with a Timmy Mallet hammer!! :)

Im not sure what S13\'s are stock. All I know is its a 1.8litre engine.

the spec changes every time you reply! a 360* thrust bearing will help the turbo hold boost but will slow the spool.

and that spec IS stage 1...

what stage 1 chip is it? norris designs or horsham development? or is a super chip?
edit: looked it up.. h-dev chip. very good chips with few complaints from their very wide customer base.

our stage 1 s13 can also keep pace with gtst\'s but this is an rx7 topic. i wanted to see what the drivers of them wonderful rotarys thought about it. any ex s13 owners here?

Post by: LDA on August 23, 2005, 12:53:58 AM
standard s13 numbers are rubbish.

they are 1.8 16v with a t25 (very small) turbo. around 170hp as standard.
0-60 6.6 (if you had an amazing launch. most do nearer 7)
top speed of over 140.
nothing special.

the stage one mods do make a good performance gain. 220-230fwhp can be had from an exhaust, filter, fuel pump, chip and cheap intercooler. so about 210-215rwhp. however the tuner that makes the chip has only had 212fwhp out of their development car.

they weigh about 1280-1360kg depending on spec. fully stripped they weigh around 1170kg.
fully stripped they do seem to shift quite well and easy go beyond the 150mph of the dial.

so maybe a fully stripped s13 with stage one mods could keep up with an fd up the 1/4 but i wounldnt expect it to do 13.7.
spose there is only one way to prove that.. the pod.

however.. none of this means anything at all. as the bloke in question didnt \'race\' any of these fd\'s on a 1/4 so the times mean nothing.

the driver did say that one of the \'races\' did go from 80-130mph. i dont think a t25 can push an s13 hard enough to out run an fd (even the 237hp ones) at those speeds.
also i\'ve not met an fd driver who would bother to even change gear to go from 80-130 let alone speed up cos someone in an s13 did.

Cheers LDA,

Loads of info there. Ive always wondered what the thrust beaing thing was for, now I know. The chip is one supplied by Jezz on the 200sx forum, I dont know what make that is, Ive never looked at it.

When you say the spec changes everytime I reply, its because I forget to mention things, its not my car so forget whats been done (although I was there when most of it was being done). Although When James posted his spec on the 200sx forum he was told it wasn\'t stage 1 buy alot of people and more a stage 1.5 lol  I dont look at the car in stages and just what it has. The stage system was imho made up by traders who sold tuning packages and called them stages.

Im sure an FD has a higher top end than an s13 but Ive seen this 200sx race 3 seperate FD\'s and 2 out of the 3 initiated the race. All these FD\'s he raced were 255bhp models although one of them did have an Apexi commander on his dash so I would have thought it would of at least of been decatted.

Somone said that they have see a stock FD do a 13.7, thats a great time, I supose thats the difference if theres a profesional driver behind the wheel. But that doesn\'t change the fact that a stock FD did a 13.7 although it was a 265bhp model but 10bhp isn\'t going to make any difference really. What time could a profesional driver get in the 200sx though? But lets not get into that argument/ discussion :p

At the end of the day Ive only said what I have seen. So making digs at me is kinda pointless. Maybe the owners of the FD\'s at the Reading meet could post on here with there version of events. Although I can understand if they dont want to. I mean why would anyone want to get mixed up in the middle of a thread like this lol

sorry I kept  quiet when Danato asked
but the reason they don\'t want to post anything is that they don\'t want to be associated with people who continually brag about racing on the STREET, and if you ignore that fact and if what you say is true you want Mazda owners to say that their cars are slower than a S13 200sx, even the 200sx owners know that the rex is a faster car.

Read this thread [as I do most threads on here] and quite honestly most of it has little interest to me. Wouldn\'t know a 200sx if I parked next to it, or be interested in who\'s quickest. I have a quick car that looks the dogs and wouldn\'t swap it for anything I could afford - each to their own.

Just one point, you say:

"Apexi commander on his dash so I would have thought it would of at least of been decatted."

Mines got an Apexi and it\'s not decatted...............

We all enjoy what we own, if not sell it...............simple.

I personally dont agree with any sort of racing on the streets, its what gives modified car owners a bad name, but if people wish to talk about it then its up to them as there are no rules against talking about it in a nice friendly manner!  ;)

I own an RX-7 and I have no problem in admitting if a car is faster than mine! dont see the problem. Also Im not saying a 200sx is quicker than an FD. I never said once that they were!!!!

Ive seen a Corsa and a Nova get a 1/4 in 13.8. If I couldn\'t get a better 1/4 mile than that then Id say they were quicker than me. But round a track we all know it would be a different story.

No one is bragging about anything... This thread was to discuss wether or not this modded 200sx could beat a stock FD. Personaly I dont care which car/ driver wins. Ive only said what Ive seen which I have to keep repeating at the end of my posts due to people taking this out of context and off topic.

So, just to clarify (as I\'m genuinely interested) what is the full spec of that S13 then? I have no difficulty in beliveing its quick, theres a few \'rapid\' ones around these parts.
Looks like the doubting was caused by a lack of complete specs at the start of the thread :)

Should bring him along to RS3 so we can all have a go  :D

When I had RX-HEAVEN\'s stock FD on loan I could only do a 14.5 @ 97 down the 1/4, that was at RS2

I can only just do 13.6 now with my street port, panspeed ecu, HKS RS kit and nur spec back box so I think he may well be faster than some FD\'s.

He over took me once on the A3 I was in the inside lane doing 50MPH I hope he doesnt count that as a \'kill\'  :rollin

I think these types of threads (the original from Socks, not this one on MRC) usually end up turning quite negative. I don\'t like seeing them on any forum.  :(

I don\'t think you can ever use the phrase "I had a race with a {insert car} on the A{insert road} and I killed it - I thought {insert car}\'s were faster, even in stock form?!".

When it comes to driving/racing on the road tt\'s just not a true test. You don\'t know whether the other drivers were trying or not, whether their cars are modded, being run-in... there could be a whole number of reasons why you "killed" them. And as a consequence a thread starts up with all kinds of statistics, facts, past stories etc. getting thrown around.

And there\'s always one or two posts that digress (sp) to what is essentially "your cars\' sh!t, my cars\' the best".

I think if you want to compare true facts and statistics about your car and someone elses then fine - I can\'t see anything wrong with that. But keep the "I killed a blah blah blah" comments for track-days where you can back up your comments.

For the record I don\'t dislike 200sx\'s at all - they are a car to be respected, just like scoobies, skylines, and all things jap. Also, I don\'t mean to disrespect anyone from the Socks forum. The type of person who starts those kinds of threads exist of most performance cars forum (possibly a few on here), but most live on BMW forums.   :evillaugh

My two pence worth.

Cheers
Jon
